I rly need to give that one another shot. I know it was his favorite of his works, I just haven't tried it since I was too young and stupid to deal with the difference in his writing style in that specific story.

It's really interesting to bookend Till We Have Faces - his last published work- with his earliest book of published poetry, called Spirits in Bondage. It's very raw, unrefined, but full of all his potential, and predates his theological writings/beliefs.

As someone who's read all of his work (most more than once, and including the worst stuff), it's absolutely the best thing he ever wrote. He knew it, too.
