I give you permission to skip to sections IV and V “Taking Stock” and “Now What” because the analysis is so good. And also it’s Saturday morning & we all need to touch grass. www.stevevladeck.com/p/144-the-su...

- Reposted by Julie Van PeltJudge Boasberg: “the Court ultimately determines that the Government’s actions on that day demonstrate a willful disregard for its Order, sufficient for the Court to conclude that probable cause exists to find the Government in criminal contempt.”

- Reposted by Julie Van PeltSince the Trump admin continues to claim Mr. Abrego Garcia is a gang member, I thought I'd take the time to put together a timeline, based on all the documents filed in court, which lays out all the "evidence" the government has ever offered. As you'll find out, there's very little "there" there!
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltThis is awesome. Thank you!
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltSenator Chris Van Hollen (Maryland) is requesting a meeting with Bukele to discuss the release of Mr. Abrego Garcia. "If Kilmar is not home by midweek – I plan to travel to El Salvador this week to check on his condition and discuss his release,” I'd like to see a full delegation of US senators.

- Reposted by Julie Van Pelt1 / Going into what’s expected to be a big weekend of protests around the US, my team at the Crowd Counting Consortium (@djpressman.bsky.social, Soha Hammam & Chris Shay) has issued our monthly data release. TLDR: protest in the US is growing at an impressive pace. A few key highlights:
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltI want a jet ready to rush Cory Booker to South Carolina once he has broken the record so he can drop a microphone on Strom Thurmond's grave.
- "I will yield for a question while retaining the floor" - I want to see that piece of paper framed next to the Constitution. Get it Cory.

- Reposted by Julie Van PeltChart of cumulative protests reported from Jan 22 - Feb 28, 2017 vs 2025:
- @djpressman.bsky.social, Soha Hammam, and I draw on our research through the Crowd Counting Consortium to show that there is far more protest happening in the US than is commonly understood, and that the shift to economic noncooperation shows powerful potential for future collective action.
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltThe legal rationale for Mr. Khalil's ICE arrest has been public for days know, and I know for a fact that Schumer's staff is aware of it, and so he should be aware of it too, so he's either not listening to his staff or deliberately playing dumb here.

- Reposted by Julie Van PeltBoasberg orders the DOJ to immediately inform his clients (ICE) about "any planes that are going to take off or is in the air need to be returned to the United States," and that all people on those planes within the class must immediately be returned to US detention during the course of the TRO.
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltBOASBERG RULES IN FAVOR OF THE ACLU, holding that the ACLU is likely to succeed on the TRO claims that there is neither an invasion as defined under the AEA and that the AEA does not apply to gangs like Tren de Aragua. "I don't think the AEA provides a basis for removal under this proclamation.":
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltThe question is now the class definition. The parties are currently debating what the specific language should be. Current language is: "All noncitizens who were, are, or will be subject to the AEA proclamation." Boasberg proposes changing it to just "are subject." ACLU doesn't object.
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltBig moment in emergency hearing on Alien Enemies Act: Chief Judge James Boasberg provisionally certifies the class. The court's rulings will apply not just to the 5 detainees in the @aclu.org @democracyforward.org petition.
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltBoasberg says it's a close question and he only has had about 40 minutes to research. He says as brief as his research has been, he doesn't think venue bars certification, but the ACLU says that they agree to dismiss habeas for now just in case. BOASBERG SAYS CLASS CERTIFICATION IS GRANTED.
- Reposted by Julie Van PeltBREAKING: D.C. federal court hearing is now in recess so DOJ can get an answer on whether Alien Enemies Act-related deportations are *currently* underway, as plaintiffs' lawyer said they believe is so.
