- My own experience is that the problems have nothing whatsoever to do with where the care workers originate from. It’s probably the least relevant factor in the whole shitshow.
- I do have to say that my 92 year old in-laws are very shy of difference and change, so having someone ‘local’ does matter to them, and it’s a bit late to revolutionise their outlook. What they hate much, much more though is having someone different every day, and no consistency of visiting times.

- In the spirit of @stephenkb.bsky.social ‘s image of public opinion on immigration as “I want a pony in my flat with no costs attached” public opinion on social care seems to be “I want a magical care machine that costs nothing”

- Slash council tax? It’s barely managing as it is. Oh I know councils would be better off without care to pay for, but there’s a lot more they could be doing, and should have been doing, for years!

- Oh, it was well before that. Colonialism had a lot to do with it.
- I’m just getting at the screeching, inaccurate headlines: overseas recruitment can take place once other routes have been tried, and something similar is already in place, so it’s much more of a tweak than a BAN!!!. And the population is always aging. You can blame that on the success of the NHS.
- I don’t think it’s great, but I do think the press could stop fainting in coils.
- Well, any language could, obviously. And all undergo constant change. “Standard” English probably already contains more borrowings than any other, and will effortlessly absorb more. 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
