i finally watched beetlejuice beetlejuice and i thought it was fun and fine but why was there a wife. why was there a dead family annihilator. why so many deus ex machinas
that movie could have had like 3/4 fewer people in it and been the greatest sequel of all time. they handled jeffery jones' absence so perfectly i was in awe
The sense I got was that they couldn't figure out a motivation or driving/central conflict for Beetlejuice himself so they did the wife thing and it ended up feeling kinda arbitrary. I really enjoyed it too but definitely agree it needed like 2/3 as much stuff going on
what makes the original movie so great is almost nothing is explained. everything just happens and the cast deals with it beautifully. this was almost the opposite of that and it hurt it bad enough where i noticed it almost immediately
you meet a new love interest, daughter, collaborator, afterlife wife and beetlejuice's whole job in the first 10 minutes or something and it's just soooooo much for no reason
Yeah, lol, like… we don't need Beetlejuice to have a job. Nobody who watched the original movie was like "hmm I don't get it… how does he pay for groceries?" or whatever
right! and that's where i'm conflicted because i think the shrunken head workers were a hilarious idea they had to explain away and like, you could have just done it without him needing to be a boss. he's easily the all-powerful dude in the afterlife. he does whatever he wants!
when they broke out of the office and streamed out of the house i almost lost my shit. what a great moment
lol yeah, that part was wonderful. now I want to rewatch it
