- The thing about political strategies such as a) persuasion, b) making good policy, and c) Downsian responsiveness to the median voter is this: It makes sense to use very different strategies in the short versus in the longer term. /1

- The political science theory that you win by not fighting back--that thermostatic backlash politics works like a slingshot, making you better off if you lose--is a type of Leninism. Increase the contradictions. The best way to win is to lose badly first. I'm aware of no evidence to support it.
- Many have predetermined axes to grind and will describe the 2024 candidates in any way to support their pre-existing view. If Biden had won, it was because he was "moderate" by some definition. If he lost, it was because he was too extreme by some definition. Truth is 1 election can't resolve this.
- Another example where the problem isn't the text of the American Constitution, but the failure of our politicians, judges, and pundits to enforce its most important provisions.

- Unlike in his 1st term, American businesses, billionaires, and foreign governments now assume that because Trump won twice they can engage in blatant corruption and not face the wrath of American law under future governments. I think they are underestimating the American people and our Constitution.
- Taking benefits away from some U.S. citizens based only on ancestry. Seems like a clear violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.
