- I know I’m beating a dead horse on this lately, but pundits and consultants who argue for this stuff are actually just arguing that politicians should cater to the views that *they* hold, which they believe are uniquely reasonable and universal. Actual swing voters have mostly incoherent politics!

View full threadTo walk this out fully: this is why you can’t just try to pick already popular positions and hope for the best. You have to pitch a worldview to people whose votes are up for grabs. Their perception of reality is highly fungible, and you bring them to your side by actually doing politics
- The "always moderate" crowd never asks the fundamental question of politics: how do people come to hold their positions? Instead, they just look at the positions people claim to hold and adopt them in a transparently pandering fashion
- what do we want? *sixteen minutes of incoherent mumbling* when do we want it? at a point that's convenient for centrist electoral fortunes!!!
