Jeremy Gordon
My novel SEE FRIENDSHIP is out now, I edit on the culture desk at the Atlantic, my newsletter is at http://jeremygordon.substack.com, and my website is at https://jeremygordon.xyz
- When my coworker asked me why Roque Larraquy's "Comemadre" is a cult classic, I said, "Because like 3 people I know have read it but we all agree it's incredible." Thankfully she saw my logic, and so I said a bit about why for the Atlantic's summer reading guide: www.theatlantic.com/books/archiv...
- One day, my novel will appear on an AAPI Month display — until then, I will bear the cross of the ambiguously named biracial
- This is an EXCELLENT piece, and like all of Spencer's work worth sitting with
- I’ve never believed in cultural decline! But throughout the 2020s, the arts have been in a strange state that does look a lot like malaise. I spent the last year learning the causes for pessimism, trying to see if another story could be told. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...
- SEE FRIENDSHIP in today’s NYT — just in time for AAPI Heritage Month
- Funny to watch the "failed artist to right-wing social media personality" trajectory up close, knowing some of these types from "back in the day" makes you realize it is just that simple
- What the fuck?
- Tore through this recently published novel over the last few days—very very funny period piece (set in the far-off year of 2011) about a delusional and careless fuck-up, one of our best genres
- LeBron has not been a serious title contender for several years; he is prolonging his career to pad his stats. Whereas the ethical GOAT Michael Jordan nobly retired while he was still physically capable in order to pursue his true passion: drinking and gambling
- I am on this lovely podcast discussing the phenomenon known as “Gorillaz”
- e16 of 60 SONGS THAT EXPLAIN THE '90S: THE 2000S is on gorillaz' "FEEL GOOD INC.," in which the blur guy gets to be a cartoon and de la soul finally get to be pop stars open.spotify.com/episode/3UKy...
- Nobody does it like Spencer, and this piece—on how gaming world has infiltrated politics—is some essential cultural commentary of the moment
- I'm so glad someone finally wrote something serious about Asmongold, and I'm so glad it was @skornhaber.bsky.social
- The LA Times Festival of Books is this weekend, and on Sunday I'll be appearing on a panel to discuss a topic you don't hear so much about these days. Come through if you're around, the advance buzz is off the charts events.latimes.com/festivalofbo...
- I had a long chat with Jenny about SEE FRIENDSHIP and the process of writing it while working in journalism — sorry to quote myself but here's a bit I will emphasize over and over:
- I shared some thoughts on SEE FRIENDSHIP with Electric Literature and, to hold myself publicly accountable, went on the record about novel #2

- This is tomorrow night — they're saying it will be so much fun
- I'm going to be doing a SEE FRIENDSHIP event at Philadelphia's H&H Books on April 15 with @sad13.horse — you can RSVP here www.eventbrite.com/e/jeremy-gor...
- Reading about a deceased pro wrestler who married two separate women named Wilma in the 20th century — something you don't see so much these days
- They should invent a book you can read while using a fork and knife
- On the downside, this boutique hotel I've booked in Providence doesn't have coffee or breakfast — but on the upside, there is an in-house karaoke bar that's open until 1. See you tonight at Riffraff, I hope
- It's hard to not be cynical and/or pessimistic about the ongoing diminishment of the written word — and yet I repel basically all of that by thinking to myself, "nonetheless, we ball"

- I will never ever apologize for being a millennial — not for BuzzFeed, not for indie rock, not for Etsy, not for any of it
- Economist/YouGov Poll Net favorability of Donald Trump [at the start of his second term | now] among U.S. adult citizens by age 18-29: +5 | -29 30-44: -6 | -14 45-64: +12 | +1 65+: -4 | -8 d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.net/documents/ec...

- Turns out there is a gigantic market for telling people exactly what they want to hear—who knew?
- SEE FRIENDSHIP has been out for one month, which is pretty cool—thank you to everyone who has read. I'll be at Providence's Riffraff on April 10 and Philadelphia's H&H Books on April 15 for events—and the April 16 screening of SUPERBAD is selling fast nitehawkcinema.com/prospectpark...
- All I want is to be the first writer who everyone likes and is nice to — I don't think that's too much to ask for
- My wife and I are firing up THE INSIDER, which I’ve never seen, at 9:17 AM. Me: “Does this have a happy ending?” Her: “Honey, I don’t think so.”
- I should be posting way more here about my novel, which has been out for 3 weeks — so here's the deal, you can order it online for a pretty reasonable price and if you don't like it, I will personally apologize. I think that's a fair deal. bookshop.org/p/books/see-...
- The White Lotus is good TV because it places a bunch of sincerely flawed (as in, they are sincere in their flaws) characters in a closed space and lets them bounce off each other. Barely any plot, compared to other shows—but the performances are so high-level, and everyone feels real
- It's so lame to use AI to generate writing ideas. You're supposed to write thousands of terrible words, put them away for a few years, then rewrite them into something good. Or you never return, and just move onto something new—it doesn't matter, really.
- I have a couple of quotes in this NYTimes piece about TJ Byrnes, one of my favorite bars in lower Manhattan www.nytimes.com/2025/03/26/s...
- Happy pub day to two excellent books: Sophie Kemp's PARADISE LOGIC and Jamie Hood's TRAUMA PLOT. You're going to want to check out both of these, trust me
- Reposted by Jeremy Gordon"Let's not take the soul-sucking path of sacrificing the most persecuted for that which we deem to be most popular. I know that there are transgender children right now looking out at this world and wondering if anyone is going to stand up for them and for their simple right to exist. Well, I am."
- I'd be such a good guest at the White Lotus... I'd be patient and understanding, careful to respect the guest-staff relationship while making it clear I saw everyone as a fully realized human being

- My mother, upon finishing my novel: "I realize you've been disappointed a lot in life."
- Chicago — tonight! You can meet my mother and at least one of my aunts, maybe even two
- On April 16, I will be introducing a 35mm copy of the classic American film SUPERBAD at Nitehawk Prospect Park, in conjunction with SEE FRIENDSHIP — tickets are on sale now nitehawkcinema.com/prospectpark...

- Chicagoans — it's time for the homecoming event. I'll be at City Lit this Thursday, March 20, for the ol' "in conversation with" ft. @apcbapcb.bsky.social
- My politics are anti-carceral, so I take no pride in announcing that Disturbed must be tracked down and made residents of the gulag.
- This is tonight!
- I'm talking SEE FRIENDSHIP with @ruthmadievsky.bsky.social tomorrow night, March 13, at Los Angeles' Skylight Books — rumor is the conversation will be "scintillating"
