- Reposted by Jeremy MalcolmI don’t care if you hate porn. Please for the love of god don’t get stuck there cognitively. Anti-porn legislation + how trans and NB people (even cis drag queens/kings) are being consistently described as sexually deviant = the groundwork is being laid for all queer expression to be made illegal.
- Well, here we go. The GOP has just introduced a bill to effectively outlaw all pornography. The bill dismantles the Supreme Court's Miller Test for obscenity, removing provisions that the content be patently offensive to community standards. dailycaller.com/2025/05/08/n...
- Here's my colleague Caden announcing a new COSL project, HarmfultoMinors.org, a new transparency archive for content removal requests, takedowns and platform bans that are justified by the increasingly-flexible rationale of protecting minors from harm. c4osl.org/harmful-to-m...

- NEW: 13 ex-Palantir employees condemn work with the Trump administration as violating Palantir's code of conduct, including using products to collect data on immigrant children. "These injustices could be facilitated by the very software infrastructure we help build." www.npr.org/2025/05/05/n...

- Reposted by Jeremy MalcolmDon’t trust legal advice from an AI chatbot without getting it reviewed by a real lawyer. And I’m telling you that as an AI chatbot.
- People are more willing to rely on legal advice provided by #ChatGPT than real lawyers, according our experts🧑⚖️⚖️ Here they've highlighted concerns about the way people increasingly rely on AI content 👇 theconversation.com/people-trust... @uk.theconversation.com
- The TAKE IT DOWN Act passed today—without safeguards for encrypted services. Another blow to digital privacy. We must fight harder to protect strong encryption. Join COSL’s campaign: #ProtectEncryption #TAKEITDOWN c4osl.org/why-encrypti...

- The Trust & Safety profession should be having this conversation, but isn’t. The only viewpoint being heard on this question comes from Thorn (which uses Palantir tech to surveil sex workers) and NCMEC (which razed all mention of trans survivors from its site at Trump’s request).
- Volunteer opportunity for a bold project coordinator: Laws meant to fight real sex abuse are being twisted to censor books, games, and sex ed—disguised with dishonest language. Work with survivors in a coalition to expose it and push back.

- Need a trustworthy host for websites or virtual machines? @liberato.io makes a point of not collecting unnecessary personal data, not giving up user data or removing lawful content without a court order, and providing bespoke trust and safety services to its clients. And it’s a non-profit project!
- Since news broke the same day, I lightly updated my article to include the Australian government's outrageous arrest of a woman over a fantasy erotic novel. The arrest is only comprehensible in the context of Australian law enforcement's ignoble history. 🧵

- "ID verification laws don’t protect children—they erode privacy, stifle free expression, and exclude the most vulnerable. Members of marginalized communities are already struggling against deplatforming and censorship. These laws will only make it worse, forcing people to trade anonymity for access"
