- I thought it was something like scam call centers dial out lots of numbers, and if you answer you get connected with a scammer, but like regular call centers someone is not always there to take the call immediately

- Edinburgh Trams now has "tap on", integrating with the buses. But you also have to "tap off" or you are charged the airport rate. Why not make people just tap off at the airport instead? edinburghtrams.com/news/tap-tap...
- So people regularly using the tram are at risk of being massively overcharged rather than putting in barriers at the airport tram stop? Seems like a bad trade off!

- I don't live down that way anymore, but the decision to remove what seemed to be a fairly successful scheme and replace it with something worse was terrible! Imho the main missing ingredient is political leadership!

- Thanks for the reply! Are the council gummed up with trying to resolve too many projects so none get done? Is there a dedicated team or are the folks who do this shared working on other things?
- What are the reasons for the delays? What action does the council need to take to get things moving?

- One of the main things I noticed after becoming a dad was the vastly increased number of interactions I'd have with strangers when I had our boy with me. Strong "safe to talk to" signal.
- I think AI can have some uses here - I have used it to give me a rough summary of different areas so I can figure out what I might like to investigate; it can also iterate through different itineraries to spark some ideas or scenarios. A creative aid, not an end-to-end planner.

- Yeah, I agree. I run a couple of JS meetups and a tech community here in Scotland. I'd love to be able to "verify" speakers, hosts, organisers or even attendees - provide a link between irl and Bluesky.

- I'm general pro-AI, I think there will be risks, but I also think it can be a useful tool. We need to figure out how and where to apply it! A sense of taste and an understanding of value is necessary.

View full threadSo often in politics people choose a framing of being a deal-maker/pragmatic/hard truth to appear tough or clear minded, which then slips into an embrace of people or ideas that they (should) know to be wrong. Why does this happen?
- It's perfectly OK to write an article about SNP economic failures; the need for business investment in our economy; how Americans have great connections with Scotland, without "regardless of what people think of his politics"-ing.
- Got a reply from Sarwar that said he didn't write the headline and suggesting that I read the article (I did). There is simply no need to run with a framing of doing deals with Trump to promote our economy
- I have a question for ecosystem builders: what has more impact on community health - regular monthly technical meetups, or annual larger conferences?
- [Not loaded yet]
- As far as I am aware there isn't anything like that - despite all the "tech startup" activity and the millions sloshing around!
- [Not loaded yet]
- Yeah, that was my thought. If you have a good base of repeat attendees then you have a better chance of making a larger event work!
- The reason I ask is Glasgow City Council provide 1k support for regular meetups but 10k for large "high impact" events (that are not just for "business building". Unsure how I feel about this balance!
- 10k would fund GlasgowJS and EdinburghJS for a whole year. My intuition is that this would be more impactful for community health than a one off big event?
