Texas Republicans want to force every public school teacher to display the Ten Commandments in their classroom.
I asked the bill author a simple question: “Is there a separation of church and state?”
She refused to answer.
May 14, 2025 01:50She thinks she answered it, because she has no concept of the primacy of law in America.
Whatever personal impulses, religious beliefs or lack thereof, or other failings or actions of the Founders, no one is taking an oath to them.
We swear allegiance to the Rule of Law, and that law is clear.
The answer, is YES.
We have a clear, and very intentional separation of Church & State in this country, and the Founders felt it was so important to draw that line EVEN AGAINST THE PREVAILING SENTIMENTS OF THEIR OWN TIME, that they made it part of the FIRST Amendment.
Somebody remind these stupid bitches that Thomas Jefferson's epitaph, which he composed himself, lists his authorship of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom right up there with the Declaration. The founders meant SEPARATION of church and state.
Candy Noble should go back to American history class and study the founding fathers and the US Constitution taught by teachers/professors without bias.
Did anyone ask if the state was establishing a preferred religion? Explain the 1st only works if everyone gets it?
Did anyone lean in & demand all 636, not 10, then call them antisemites for refusing?
Did anyone 1st Timothy 2:12 her?
Don’t be nice to disingenuous theocrats.
Well Texans keep Texan-ing.
Remember Juneteenth!
Amend it to include the Beatitudes if they think the Bible is so important in classrooms
Karen
Which part of the US constitution obligates me to respect their religion, or fund it's dissemination with my tax dollars?
They are forcing Christian Nationalism on the children in Texas. Here comes the Hitler Youth. Everyone
Why can't republicans be Christians without hating those of other faiths? That woman doesn't understand the basics of the faith that she's trying to force on other people's children.
I think some believing folks mis-understand separation of church and state. It is for the benefit and blessing of the church that it stays separate from the state.
The state is like Mr Stud, but Jesus is all together lovely.
