A corollary to the Wilhoit line about conservatism is that virtually every conservative/reactionary believes that the rules which benefit others are deliberate artificial interferences, while all the rules which benefit them are actually just the natural, just, default state of affairs.
There is a certain breed of opponent to liberalism who feels entitled to the shield of civilization’s protection while hacking away at the arm that holds it for funsies. The coming years will prove educational for them.
