That's debatable, and ultimately, if you're buying a car instead of a bus ticket, you don't really care about the environment.
That said, EVs are at least undeniably better in that they do not pollute LOCALLY, which thus reduces smog.
Yeah, as good as electric cars might be compared to gas cars, an electric bus, tram, or train is even better.
The issue is public transportation takes government action, and they drag their feet to do anything good.
Quite frankly I think that the "umm aaaacktually electric cars are BAD for the environment!" line is effectively just propaganda for fossil fuels. Is public transportation better, carbon wise? Obviously. But even in an urbanists wet dream timeline... Some cars are still going to exist.
May 13, 2025 20:37There are many possibilities for a future where we reduce our overdependence on cars in dense urban areas, but there is no possible future (at least where technological civilization still exists) where cars cease to exist entirely, im sorry, there's just not. And those that do should be electric.
