Somewhere between 70,000 and 100,000 peasants were killed. Everywhere in Germany this event is being commemorated.’ Lyndal Roper on the blog www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/ma...

- And, y'know, the *three* popes forced out of office† in 1415! †To be precise, Gregory XII resigned voluntarily, while John XXIII and Benedict XIII were deposed by the Council of Constance.
- I don't know what I owe this sudden influx of 100+ new followers to, but welcome! I'm a historian of the Holy Roman Empire, especially in the "long" 15th century. - Reposted by Duncan HardyThis is a critically important contribution to the ongoing efforts to recover hidden female labor and artisanship. Three cheers for Dulcia and Guba and Claricia and all of the wondrous women involved in the work of creating medieval manuscripts! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
- Sad to hear of the death of this outstanding historian, who was highly respected among Anglophone and Germanophone scholars of the German Reformation. His masterful "German Histories in the Age of Reformations" (2009) is a thought-provoking meditation on the continuities across the period 1400-1650.
