Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen today restated the requirement of 🇩🇰naval vessels to be built in Denmark. She said that it is time to bid farewell to the idea that Denmark is no longer a shipbuilding nation and industry should take part in European naval shipbuilding. Link👇🏻
I think the 🇩🇪-🇳🇴-(🇨🇦) naval cooperation has an open door for 🇩🇰. Different times may require new solutions 🤷♂️
Indeed, personally, I would prefer us to join the 🇩🇪🇳🇴submarine cooperation but submarines are not in the cards…
But frigates. They even might be built in Denmark, but what about a common design?
I believe the idea is again to do the frigate design in Denmark and I think the common understanding here is the F127 is too big.
May 1, 2025 18:45Well, calling the F127 a „frigate“ is rather a stretch, anyway. Displaces 10,000t and is going to be heavily armed… even for a destroyer, it will be rather on the large side.
Agree, but Ze Germans call it a frigate too ;-)
Still.
#ChiefDEUNavy has already announced that he would like to name it a destroyer
Would be a more fitting classification. Interesting that the 103 destroyer was about 4,700 tons in comparison. To add to the confusion: Danish frigate next to a French destroyer some years ago ;-)
If the F127 really reaches 10 000 tons, we should start calling it a light cruiser just to really annoy the Germans and their frigate fetish.
Indeed, HMS BELFAST is a very good example of a similar tonnage.
The Germans are building pocket cruisers, someone should tell them the Washington Treaty isn't a thing anymore.
They should the Japanese as well.
This is a multi-purpose destroyer….
