- Realizing it's been 8 years since I posted this and crumbling into dust
- Getting stuck into @graceblakeley.substack.com this morning. From the off, it chimes so much with our MPG book, Outsight: 'This sense of unfreedom is grounded in the deep disparities of power that exist in capitalist societies - many of which are completely invisible.'
- This is an enthralling, if sometimes depressing read from @graceblakeley.substack.com

- Sanctions used to be deployed as a slap on the wrist for foreign leaders, but over the past several decades they have become a central weapon of US foreign policy. Excessive use of sanctions may have begun to undermine US global hegemony.
- My Times piece: The big political backlash over winter fuel payments and welfare reductions shows how hard even modest cuts are to achieve and that the spending juggernaut will roll on: Don’t bank on Rachel Reeves slowing down public spending www.thetimes.com/article/e1b0...
- Government should also be cutting back its spending on private consultants such as McKinsey, as detailed in the excellent book by @graceblakeley.substack.com

- JUST IN: ProPublica’s “Life of the Mother” series, which exposes the fatal consequences of abortion bans, has won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. This is the second consecutive year we’ve been awarded this distinction and our eighth Pulitzer: www.propublica.org/series/life-...
- @propublica.org wins the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for its amazing coverage of the consequences of abortion bans, showcasing the women who died. It’s the second year in a row in which ProPublica has won the Pulitzer Gold Medal! 🎉
- I thought I'd start on essential reading list on my substack, The Existential Reader. 1st recommendation is Vulture Capitalism, by @graceblakeley.substack.com, a book that captures the urgency of the situation that is now facing humanity. #VultureCapitalism #Booksky #Writing #Authors #WriterLife

- "Organisations like @youthdemand.bsky.social act as the ‘radical flanks’ of their movements. Their eye-catching tactics force people to face up to issues like climate breakdown and the Gaza genocide and ask themselves ‘what would be a reasonable response?" graceblakeley.substack.com/p/youth-dema...
- The sad thing is, just turning up and protesting is deemed "radical" by the authorities these days, we are being incredibly suppressed in the UK now, we're not far from an authoritarian regime ourselves, which is absolutely tragic.

- An excellent short summary of how we got here. Neoliberal globalisation hollowed out the economic base of the western working class while liberal politicians supressed reformist left-wing voices who tried to limit the damage, leaving a vacuum of resentment and suffering for the far right to fill.
- "The liberal order didn’t collapse because people failed to appreciate its benefits. It collapsed because it failed the vast majority of people it was supposed to serve." Read: substack.com/home/post/p-...

- Ah, lovely! An interview with one of my favourite people - @graceblakeley.substack.com. “Grace joined with us in viewing citizen journalism as a form of grassroots empowerment, giving voice to views across the UK that would not otherwise be heard.”
- Always costs me when I meet a writer! @graceblakeley.substack.com 😍
