Neoliberalism refers to an economic doctrine (Reaganomics / trickle-down) — not 'liberal' social policy. Why do so many people conflate the two? It’s irritating af. They are entirely different, often opposing, ideologies.

True but that has nothing to do with the use of the term 'liberal' that is used to designate a partisan political positioning. Liberals are not liberals, in other words, far from it. Conflating the context of the use of the word itself does in fact confuse things IMO./
