- The neoliberals had a critique of libearlism that came from within the liberal tradition - they sought to update ideas held by theorists like Smith, Ricardo etc while adhering steadfastly to its central tenets, like the centrality of the market and the separation of political and economic power.Apr 23, 2025 17:04
- I don’t dispute the terms are historically related. I do disagree that you can use them interchangeably today. They don’t mean the same thing at all and most people who identify as politically liberal today don’t espouse neoliberal economics. Tony Blair does not represent liberalism.
- Tony Blair absolutely does represent liberalism. I don’t know where you live but if you’re in North America you use the term differently to everywhere else in the world.
