- Reposted by Raina Telgemeieroh I see, when the pope chooses a new name, Christians are all for it and address him as such, but a TRANS person chooses a new name—

- A whirlwind of joy w/ @_scott_mccloud the past month, celebrating The Cartoonists Club! The indie bookstores we partnered with know how to get their communities excited. We celebrated #NationalLibraryWeek, sharing the important role libraries play in TCC! And, we high-fived about a million kids.

- I love this! So often I see kids who think they can’t draw, but give them the basic tools of comics (words, panels, sfx, emenata…) and something shifts.
- Still a few tickets left to see @scottmccloud.bsky.social and I in the Bay Area next weekend. Ticket sales benefit the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation! www.eventbrite.com/e/rakestraw-...

- Reposted by Raina TelgemeierIt's hard to explain to people outside this fight that Texas is currently trying to ban kids from using public libraries... but they are; it's passed out of committee, and it's going to a floor vote. 🚨If you know ANYONE in Texas it's time for them to call their reps and demand NO ON HB3225🚨
- Bad. Despite the voucher debate, the Tx State Affairs committee met and voted FOR HB3225. This bill would require public libraries to have age restrictions and cordone off parts of the library as inaccessible to teens. @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social @penamerica.bsky.social @everylibrary.bsky.social
- Reposted by Raina Telgemeierif you are a cis person it costs you nothing to just say today that you see & hear your trans sisters & brothers & others over in the UK today -- and around the world, too, knowing that rulings like today's ripple out in ugly ways.
- This breaks down the economics of a book-making career really well. (Spoiler: it’s not easy to make money making books!)
- It’s wild that if just a few more people had voted for the smart lady with the fun laugh, we wouldn’t be here.
- Reposted by Raina TelgemeierSunday discourse: Years ago, the former head of a major comic imprint moving into producing told me, “why comics? It’s a lesser medium.” He couldn’t have been more wrong. I love TV. I love film. But comics are uniquely potent. There are as magic as any form of storytelling in existence.

- Thank you so much, Nick! Love this thread of observations from a fellow comics master. 😊

- Reposted by Raina TelgemeierThis is exactly why we need to be organized in our defense of the freedom to read. The book banners are organized & we'll funded. But they are also unpopular. Our numbers can beat their money
- Since folks seem to be talking about publishing & creating today: THE CARTOONISTS CLUB took @scottmccloud.bsky.social and I about 4 years to make, from idea to turning in final art. We wrote 3 drafts, hired an inker (@cavetoonist.bsky.social!) and still: graphic novels take a long dang time.
