- Reposted by Sarah GelbardThe Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest academic event in Canada every year. I have attended every one since 2005 (excluding a two year experiment where the Cdn Poli Sci Association held its annual meeting separately). That they couldn't find a host institution...
- Because it's 2025.
- First long #TeamSilverBird #ottbike ride of the year to our favourite ice cream destination for our first Brett's razzle of the year.

- Everytime I visited Montreal it feels less and less familiar. Less real that I lived here for three years. Walking to my hotel after the conference social last night I bumped into someone I knew. Random encounters and someone recognizing you in the crowd really reconnects you to place.
- In Montreal yesterday and today for the 2nd Capillary Critical Geography Network conference at UQAM. Love a regional conference and reconnecting with colleagues.

- Yes, more this meeting could have been more, not less.

- Reposted by Sarah GelbardThe Ford government is about to ram through Bill 6, which would build more jails, instead of the affordable homes that people need. It would also be more expensive: supportive housing costs $25,000 a year per person, and incarceration costs $133,000.
- Folks shitting on criticism of "luxury" condos by arguing there are *more expensive* types of housing are deflecting from the point of the argument that there should also be *more affordable* types of housing.
- Oh no. Finished rewatching Bojack. Now what? Also (spoiler): how dare they not end on the best end credit song ever? #BackInTheNineties
- Recieved my #CCOCPlantDays plant order yesterday! Planted my #communityGarden plot today. Learned a lot last year and looking forward to year 2 in the garden.
- Ah yes. Over the winter I forgot that you must reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Annual sunburn reminder.

- Post election. Post playoffs. My Ottawa feed might have something interesting to say next week.

- Trying to find the words today. This works👇.
- If you're feeling good about the election and think this is finally over, look at the Student Vote results. In the past the student vote is generally significantly more progressive. NDP need to win back the youth vote before the next election. studentvote.ca/canada/the-r...
- My ninth federal election. If I recall correctly, I have only been represented by the MP I voted for once. Paul Dewar.
- Wow. I don't remember voting ever taking more than 10-15 minutes. But all things considered, not terrible. Mechanicsville polling station wait time is about 45min (depending on your poll no. some lines shorter than others). Lots of work from home folks thinking we'd beat the rush. Oh well.
- You can just post cats today instead of election hot takes.
- You can hold your nose and vote today even if you think the system and all your options suck. AND still continue to organize and push for better systems and options tomorrow.

- For an election supposedly about asserting our Canadianess, I am tired by how American/Presidential the campaigns and media coverage have been. Canadians vote for their local representative. Canadians have more than two parties.
- Offloading process tasks to AI won't solve the problem and pressure of the neoliberal academy reducing of our work to productivity and impact metrics. It does not "free up time" for the "real" work. It is a continuation of the undervaluing of our work, our time, our relationships, our humanity.
- Apparently, Octranspo Route 12 has no stops for 2km along Scott between Tunneys and Pimisi Stations? Route 16, which formerly ran along Scott has been cancelled.
- Hey, Ottawa! You should check out the silent auction. Still lots of great deals. "Your auction purchase helps to fund free concerts, bring talented artists to the festival and make live music accessible to everyone." Just don't outbid me on mine :P
- Some pretty cool auction items still up for grabs in the Grassroots Festival fundraiser. Support local music! www.32auctions.com/ogf2025

- Rain foiled our bike plans but still made it out to see our friends Tin Constellations at Grassroots Festival this morning at the gorgeous First Unitarian Congregation. #ottawa

- I wish carshare in Ottawa could scale up. It works well enough for me as someone who is already carefree for my rare 4 or 5 trips per year. But car availability, particularly for unplanned trips is generally a major obstacle when I talk to carshare-curious friends thinking about giving up their car.
- Ouff. I know it's the same taxes I would pay if the university deducted it from my pay throughout the year... but it is painful to pay your income tax in one big lump sum at tax time.
