- David Hogg is so fascinating to me because as a Parkland survivor, he is the ghost of past failures by the DNC to enact meaningful change despite broadbase support, and every action he takes to hold them accountable, primary bad actors out of incumbencies, and speak truth to power is poetic justice.

- Yes, they chose it to follow in the footsteps of Malcom X, who chose it to exemplify that the cause was larger than his own identity.
- No, but like... If you've never considered this, let me put it into perspective: The average political career length in Senate is 11 years. In the House, it's 9. David Hogg as an adult is sitting in the same room with over half the politicians who got on TV and then did nothing after his shooting.

- Makes me wonder how Emma is also doing.
- They go by X now, and they've been regularly giving talks about community building and grassroots activism strategy while earning their BA in English!
- Nine years ago this country sent thoughts and prayers to a handful of children who we couldn't be bothered to listen to, and now at least one of them has ascended to a position where his voice echoes through the halls of power. Truly an opponent of their own making.
- It annoys me when folks who are newer discuss "game engines" as a default. My work in game dev predated anything that really called itself a "game engine." That really materialized around 2000 and on. Prior, everything was bespoke to a game or series. Everyone was an "engine programmer" as a result.
- There aren't that many out there are there? Seems like everything just kinda fell under the banner of Unreal. Though my understanding of this subject is pretty much limited to SquareEnix's various technical set backs trying to build them.
- Hahaha, believe me, there are more games engines under the sun than there are days to learn them. I can name at least three dozen I've learned either as a hobbyist or for some professional role and that's before I even touch the proprietary ones. 🤣
- A bit weird to get annoyed by it imo. They excel as a default in the modern age: reach relies a on portability in a fractured market, and game, graphics, and computing systems have advanced in complexity. I get the nostalgia, but not many projects would be improved by being coded from scratch.
- I would encourage you to read some of my other responses to better understand the complaint.
- I still care about other people. Despite some of the things I've lived through that I should have never experienced, I still retained the ability to love others and to genuinely care about how my actions impact others. It disproves so much of what I was told about who I would become.
- Is it fair to say that also like, in the conceptual sense, if you understood the target platform well enough, you could feasibly draft everything out 'on paper' even before you had to test it directly?
- I would say Yes* *But really no. The systems that we deal with are complex enough that no matter how knowledgeable you are, through sheer volume and complexity, you're likely to overlook things and it will require significant work after you move to implement it.
- I'm actually super fascinated by the research into properties of misinformation and combatting misinformation as a (retired) educator because much of it sheds light on the huge issue of flawed pedagogy and learners internalizing bad information. I'm always reading the papers with that in mind.
- yeah we honestly need to book up on this stuff, the situation is...woeful
- It is, but even beyond politics and current events, simple things like "mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell" and "three states of matter" and the impact of weird, often incorrect ideas becoming lodged in a learner's foundational information is a really weird but real case of the problem!
