It’s nice that Tolkien gave the One Ring a nice simple power like invisibility because nowadays it’d probably summon a wisecracking cartoon rabbit or something, actually that would have made Lord of the Rings better never mind

I think invisibility is just a side-effect and its real power is putting the user into the, like, ethereal plane or something. So he kind of had it both ways.
