💜📄[hc] one of the kids in terncliff has pop-up dialogue that says "i guess not all adults are bad people..." and it's making me think so much about how gaius gets a 'fresh slate' with a new batch of children. the incongruity of knowing what you've wrought and being a trusted adult to these orphans..
i'm never here to debate if werlyt was well written (i recognize the issues ppl have with it but am focused on the potential it has for angst and character growth vs wholesale lapping it up l m a o) - but i looove the concept of living with the guilt and the hopelessness of 'being better' when-
-you will die hated (deservedly so). what would compel gaius to change at all, really? that's the part i like to think about a lot. he's well aware no amount of penance will ever grant him forgiveness. dead man walking vibes until he learns to trust those who love him a little
also, completely removed from my own wol lore, i know gaius sticks around because allie is still alive. if he were to die now, well. just another child he'd disappoint and leave with nothing when he is literally all she has at that point. :')
