It’s not gendered because it’s used to insult women, it’s gendered because people think calling someone a vagina (ie a woman) is one of the worst possible insults. It comes back to how women are valued; ok to stick a dick (far less offensive) in, but not much good for anything else.

I’ll roll my eyes at variations of GC (not used an insult, so not problematic!), and I’m fine with it used as slang for anatomy, but I really don’t like it used pejoratively. I tend to think way too much about the meaning of words, so there are other swears I similarly avoid.

Also: it’s far more commonly used at men (see my first point) which is why it slaps so hard here. And I think this is probably playing into why people are using it in this time and context. They want something more shocking than the more familiar “female dog” to express how they’re feeling.
