- I have also not had a response to emails so will be writing a physical letter later today. Going to do one for each of my MSPs too. After that, it will be going to the constituency office in person. Got to be irritating!
- I hear Labour are furious about the Pride ban. Good morning everybody!

- Yes absolutely.
- Really interesting study with implications for #edusky and maybe #iTeachChem too? These factors, which are closely related to class and wealth to a degree, is something that my school was always mindful when planning lessons and activities. This wasn't so much the case at university!
- Labour losing Runcorn was avoidable and as much a result of our party’s failures as Reform’s rise. Now, we need to learn the right lessons, not double down on the same mistakes. Cutting disability benefits and scrapping the Winter Fuel Allowance made voters abandon us. [1/3]
- Statistically, it is incredibly likely that there is more than six trans people in that constituency and they sure wouldn't have voted Labour after the latest showing of minority bashing by the party.

- If you want to know how serious our decline in the UK, when North Carolina did what the Labour Government and EHRC have done, the then UK Government told LGBT+ people to beware travelling there. (Credit to @kazhawa.bsky.social.) www.voanews.com/amp/uk-issue...

- If we have equal respect, why are we being segregated, and provisions made to exclude us from services, on the basis of being trans?
- What would you focus on?

View full threadI’ve repeatedly stood up for trans. I don’t expect any thanks. It’s called solidarity. But a wee bit of advice. You don’t demand solidarity. It’s not how it works. It’s freely given or it isn’t.

- Dismantling of institutions, like in the USA, just with a very British veneer. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of money from certain groups being funnelled in the direction of individuals high up in the EHRC.

- I'd be surprised if it wasn't tbh! Back when I was doing my PhD and postdoc there was a definite feeling that some homogeneous mechanisms would be a lot more feasible computationally with a dash of heterogeneity or nanoparticles in there!

- No, more because of the cost of healthcare rather than any sort of dietary choices. It kind of raises the floor, so that it is overall easier to maintain good dental health.

- This was a really excellent (and upsetting) interview that was really balanced too. It feels really odd, and refreshing, that your viewpoint has been allowed to be shared like this. Thank you for doing this Jess.
- We do have free dental care with the NHS in the UK (though the system is failing badly now) but it was basically accepted that there would be decayed teeth in childhood and then the need for fillings. Us Scottish and UK welwalas with our bad teeth!
- Speaking as a chemist though, I think the fluoridation programs are a really good idea and shouldn't be discontinued in the states. The risk is exceedingly low, the benefits for health are clear and it is economically sensible too, particularly helping those that are disadvantaged the most.

- We drink the tap water in Scotland - it is "cooncil juice" (and generally pretty nice even if no fluoridation)! I did not drink the council juice in England and survived on non-water drinks for a good number of years.

- Ahhh, they are transvestigating each other now then because only those tainted by the meekest hint of higher testosterone (or the future potential to be subjected to such) are bad?
- Looking into the account I think they're an utter arsehole but not necessarily being transphobic, instead trying to pull the "you are a racist" card for anyone not accepting their edgelord bullshit.
- Thank you for taking a look!
- Apologies for keeping you busy
- We also have ridiculously bad water elsewhere in the UK. The hard water in England was basically undrinkable to me and I'd have to use clarifying shampoo and conditioner so often when living there. I think there is a bit of a British cultural issue where people don't care.
- Or perhaps the issues with sewage dumping into our rivers and beaches, lack of fluoridation, hard water problems is just to test our resolve and show that we have that stiff British upper lip or something? 🙃

- Tooth decay was super common growing up in Scotland, irrespective of wealth. Still recall the time that my younger brother got a fixation for apple juice and even with standard brushing etc he ended up with 7 rotten teeth in half a year.

- hard to think of any country that has inflicted such purely gratuitous harm on itself ever in the past. this stupid old dickhead was handed a goldilocks economy on a silver platter and he set it on fire
- Brexit Britain is certainly up there. A decade of stagflation, worse quality of life, and rights being rolled back for minorities.
- [Not loaded yet]
- It was quite deliberate. Seems that Labour were just waiting for the flimsiest of reasons to allow all that transphobia to come gushing out. Given other stances on migrants, disabled people and those in poverty, it won't be long until it is time for the gays and women to be the problem.

View full threadOne of the big issues with the GPEW was letting people that go against their COC when it comes to trans rights happily join, remain, and then be elevated to positions of power when their similar single-issue friends join and become vocal.
- Which gives them a platform to share their transphobia and ultimately results in more people being turned further against us because of the stances of the media and the political class. cf. Ali.
- If I recall, some were also being expelled prior to that time and then rejoining, or others were kicking up a fuss. The E&W Green Party just absolutely refuses to learn and they don't ever bring themselves to a point of clearly supporting trans, non-binary and intersex folk (sadly).
- Maybe they will get better, but given one of the co-leader's stances, I am not holding my breath.
- [Not loaded yet]
- This feels exactly like what happened with the Green Party back in 2021/2022 and discussions then. I really hoped that trans folk would have realised that the E&W Green Party (of which I am a former member) is not broadly supportive of trans rights.
- Thank you for standing up for the transgender community, Nicola! 👏🏼

View full threadThey seem intent on marching us closer and closer to a far-right government so that the last vestiges of capitalism can be exploited by those that are wealthy. The EHRC guidance, and Labour, are going to harm all trans people. After that, they will harm immigrants and gay people.
- It doesn't stop. I hope that your voice still carries weight in Labour, Duncan, and thank you for standing up for values that were once associated with (Scottish) Labour.

- It is really galling to think that this Labour government is now socially to the right of Theresa May's government and economically to the right of Boris Johnson's. It is shameful what has become of the Labour party.

- Asked if Keir Starmer still believes that a trans woman is a woman, his spokesman replies "no". Says that trans women must now use men's bathrooms
-
View full threadThank you for doing that. Calling for no-confidence in the equalities minister would also be good and, if like may of us, you come to the conclusion that Labour do not value left-wing and accepting others, including the marginalised, you can always leave the party.
- Chances are, you are a much better person than those at the top of the Labour organisation who have allowed crassly right-wing stances to become what represents the party.

- That is absolutely true. I do think that Starmer has been emboldened by things happening in the US and people there really not pushing back. Feels like there is an expectation in our political class that it will be similar here.
