I think you’ve met a lot of people who are sick and tired of the UK soap opera and would like the UK to figure out what it wants before negotiating opt outs for small groups.
- Ireland is a member of the EU if you hold dual nationality one being a member state you are entitled to F.O.M. That's not the UK negotiating for opt outs it's EU treaty law.
- Looks like it is time to end the CTA and make dual nationality illegal in the UK - as well as making the maximum time on the ILR or settled status 5 years. If you want to live in the UK you take and only hold UK citizenship.

- There would be no border checks and an Irish citizen can live in the UK without restriction but can't work, can't claim benefits etc and time accrued has no value without a visa - so no route to citizenship.
- There is nothing in the GFA that requires Irish citizens to have rights in GB and so they can be reduced to the same as any non UK citizen.Mar 17, 2025 08:10
