OAN, I am trying to learn more about Burkina Faso President
Ibrahim Traoré. African leaders rarely make the news here, so I didn't know he was instrumental in the Alliance of Sahel States.
Western countries / former colonizers have been stamping out pan-Africanism forever. Leave Mama Africa alone!
May 7, 2025 14:45Part of the problem is that thanks to slavery and colonialism, most of us Anglophones from the TAST diaspora are monolingual. Much of what I'm finding about him is in French. I can only read English & (basic/mid) Spanish. Sigh...
Ah well... I have the summer. Back to dissertation and exam reading.
Remembering Thomas Sankara, and *so* many African liberation leaders I learned about growing up in Detroit.
So funny to see this post as I just saw Vic Mensa teaching his toddler about Traoré on instagram.
Wow! Yes, what I've seen on social media about him is good.
I love that he is a Millennial President. Africa is the youngest continent in the world, which means their demographic dividend is coming midcentury. 🙌🏾
I just learned about him yesterday. It is amazing to see Black Americans get behind him. What a real leader. I listened to his speeches on TikTok.
Soon as you do something good for people and become an Icon western powers want it to end quickly.
