- Excellent title.
- Socialistic techniques of paying them to do the right thing sadly seem about the only route available we have to us to try to get Americans to do the things they should be willing to do it seems to me.
- FWIW, Marin Co. has a system that sort of does that. Measure C is a parcel tax that among others things, provides local grants (essentially, subsidies) as a way to offset the cost of defensible space and fuel mitigation. www.marinwildfire.org/about-mwpa/m... www.marinwildfire.org/resident-inf...

- I hear that's a gorgeous train ride!
- Additionally, I'll note what the California LAO found in 2021: "Absent strong social pressures or financial incentives— such as enforcement of fines for noncompliance—these homeowners might not consistently prioritize taking action to maintain defensible space." (lao.ca.gov/Publications...)
- and: "According to CalFire, its units rarely issue citations, partly due to a belief that local district attorneys will not prioritize enforcement of the citations."
- Yet, they've only managed to get 10% of the residents to institute best practices wildland/urban interface fire safety steps? Anyways, you're on the ground and I appreciate your work so am not trying to argue or turn you against your clients.
- I hear you. I'm new to this space, and don't know much about Truckee Fire specifically. Still, aggressive inspections and fuel mitigation is relatively new in many places, including Truckee. That said, they now have a new tax to support wildfire prevention. www.truckeefire.org/wildfire-imp...
- I'm not sure that's right. Generally, having a full understanding of community compliance has been difficult prior to @fireaside.bsky.social (the company I work for). We empower agencies, like Truckee Fire, to conduct more efficient, and more comprehensive inspections. We make that data visible!
- Also, Truckee Fire is one of our clients. (They were one of the earliest!)
