- Scotland is one of the least crowded countries in Europe: England one of the highest. So why must we suffer from immigration policies set by Westminster based purely on England's priorities? 🏴|🇪🇺 #ScottishIndependence public.flourish.studio/visualisatio...
- Labour's failure to deliver for Wales show's there's never been a 'partnership in power' - just power concentrated to London and a Labour party in Wales too weak to stand up to them. A Plaid Cymru government would stand up for Wales and what's right for our communities. 🏴💚

- Have to say, this is a poor take from @davidheniguk.bsky.social. Frankly, if you're bleating about unfairness of a deal that you've asked for and voluntarily entered into, then you need to accept it's down to your own side's negotiators Firstly, officials are duty bound to get the best deal A 🧵

View full threadOnly have to look at the contrast between US & EU negs. Trump dumps on the UK, UK ends up in a worst position than under Biden. It's called a "triumph". UK *chooses* to leave EU gets a *tariff free* deal which still hurts as UK needs SM/CU, but refuses it. It's not our fault but EU "punishing" us
- That's an excellent point Mick. For UK commentators, Europe seems to be held to a different standard than India or the US. They really aren't able to cope with having left and what that means as regards our relative positions.
- All electorally successful Prime Ministers have had outriders in the media willing to go out and defend them. Blair had lots, so did Cameron and Johnson too. Less than a year into his Government and it's a struggle to think of any prominent actively pro-Starmer commentators doing the same

- Agree with you both. This whole syndrome reflects the UK's inability to accept the reality of Brexit. UK expected to start with 100% of membership benefits, and negotiate its way down, retaining as many as possible; in fact, as a third country, it started at 0 and has been trying to negotiate up.

- I do actually find it incredible that Labour seem to have just copied the Conservatives having watched them fail and the Labour advisors are blaming the EU after watching the Conservative advisors do the same. There is zero learning going on here. 😜

- As for this, I'm going to call balls on it. There is no global power as popular (and fair) as Europe. David mentions our neighbours. They, including the UK, voluntarily adopt all or part of our law. That doesn't happen for China or India or the US. That happens for Europe. 6
- ...and it's not like the UKG has a reputation for generosity in negotiations, or even a stellar reputation for sticking to agreements. The EU could, and perhaps should, refuse any further negotiations until UKG has lived up to already signed agreements, and few nations would hold that against it.

- The BBC is worried about our democracy - thing is they broke our trust and by platforming far right nonsense they are the ones breaking it!!

- EU Trumpists are going to Trump, ultras always prefer purity of their precious projects. What do we need the world for? What do we need neighbours for? Build the walls higher and keep everyone out! Only surprised this is just considered a "poor take", I've been called worse. By purists on all sides

- As I said yesterday, these are the usual final haggles in negotiations, but they reflect very badly on an EU that already got a deal heavily balanced in its favour and now greedily returns for more.
- The EU-UK pre-summit negotiations are getting spicy ahead of Monday summit — EU member states digging in on mobility and fish, UK trying (and failing) to lobby capitals over Commisson’s head. Some trenchant briefings to me @andybounds.bsky.social and @georgewparker.bsky.social on.ft.com/4jVUMSF
- I seem to recall that lobbying MS govts was what pissed off EU Commission post 2016 Why would anyone think it’s worth repeating to get a different result? The problem the UK still has is a piss-poor negotiating skillset & still doesn’t “have all the cards” as some idiot once said
- You can’t blame the EU for playing hardball. The U.K. have proved themselves to be untrustworthy, over and over again.

- Also, shall we just work out how a "time-limited" regulatory alignment process for food between UK and EU is supposed to work? This isn't a practical suggestion for any administration or business, and should be called out as such.
- And you think UK is not greedy of course .... wanting the advantages of the club without being in the club
