- 2 down. Two to go. Maybe three.
- Listening to some Eurovision songs. Ukraine's "Bird of Pray" has an interesting 70s rock opera sound. Estonia's and Sweden's songs are funny. Spain's song is catchy pop. Denmark's singer has a nice voice. Eurovision is always fun.

- I'm so frustrated. The richest of the rich want to steal more and more. It is impossible to be ethical and a billionaire. The two cannot coexist.

- Lovely story!
- I JUST contacted all my reps about the Library of Congress and the head of copyright office being fired, and now this.
- Good lord just what the hell is up today. A potential ban on any regulation for AI for the next 10 years? This includes good bills like AB 412 of legislation protecting folks from Deepfakes! Wtf?! Call your congressmen and women asap to tell them to take this down! www.404media.co/republicans-...

- Not that I know of. There's a way to make it remind you if you're posting without ALT, and I've got mine set up that way.
- Hey, if you could throw some ALT text on your images, I'd love to share them. (I try hard to be inclusive like that. Maybe you didn't know ALT text was a thing on BlueSky.)
- Death Rights is a science-fantasy adventure story about changing the world, amongst other things. For Read Indie Fantasy, I wrote about changing the world and how it can be hard to see your future impact in the current moment.

- I totally get it. I lived in Venice for a while. (I've lived other touristy places, too, but Venezia takes the cake.) Every single one of them wanted the cash but hated on the tourists.
- I've seen this every tourism-centered place I've lived. It's a love-hate relationship. Very strange.
- Self-portrait with kitty--that's my faithful cat, and the cat-eared shadow is me wearing my Pusheen hoodie. Kitty and I were hanging out together.
- incredible thread
- Pope Leo's first sermon and, uh, his using the phrase "be ever more fully a city set upon a hill" and cf'ing it to Rev 21:10 instead of any of the others before saying "many baptized Christians" are "living in a state of practical atheism" is. Well. Shots fired! www.npr.org/2025/05/09/g...
- I just drank a Cinnabon Boost. "Bakery inspired," it says. Oh, my. There was nothing Cinnabon or bakery-inspired about that beverage. Good on them, though, for giving it a try.

- I loved Itaweon Class. And I go for the most luminous foundation possible. The beautiful people have swayed me. I, too, want that dewy glow.
- I ordered a hardcover of one of my books, and it arrived damaged. The first 25 pages are torn. The printed cover is multiple milometers off center. I'm afraid if I return it as damaged, instead of destroying it, Amazon would send it to the next customer who ordered it (as A is known to do). 😩
- Today's scent: Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Thematically, the scent is of a windy, northern beach. So far, it's quite nice, a bit grapefruit-forward. I confess I was worried I'd smell like a Thanksgiving turkey. Ha! No.

- Ness, the difficulty/easy index on this depends on details in your illustration, particularly how it looks across that spine. I've got DMs off here, but you can hit me up via Discord or email. Email is here: shannonknight.net/Contact/

- Beautiful separation of the body from the self while also showing care and acceptance of that same body 💕
- “We’re going to get through this,” Cait said. “And if we don’t, we’ll have some pizza first and a bit of glitter on our faces.”

- I went in ice cold--didn't read the cover copy or anything--and the start is terrific. I love a fresh fantasy feel.
- In Domestication, Janie would really, really like to not be human at all. She wants to be some wild creature instead, such as a coyote. #SFFChat
- In Wish Givers, bodies are canvases for wishes. In Insiders, bodies showcase our differences, which we need to work past. In Domestication, bodies demonstrate use, abuse, and control. In Grave Chronicles, bodies highlight death and disease, and that we have inherent value despite that. #SFFChat

- Just as well. Better to read an article summarizing it all than to live through the drama.

- Current use, on LLMs at least, is rotten all the way down, so no surprises there.
- I wrote a guest post for @hcnewton.bsky.social called "Chronic Illness in Death Rights," which explores some of the ways I slid big concepts that are important to me into an action-adventure story. Check it out! irresponsiblereader.com/2025/05/08/g...

- "A crucial part of this, [Running Wolf] adds, is the second principle— that communities must retain ownership of their information such that they can withdraw access at any time." The way consent has been removed from the AI equation makes this even more important.
- "Indigenous languages tend to be verb-based and polysynthetic, meaning that a single word can include multiple elements that, in English, would be written out as entire sentences. ‘Bird’, for instance, might translate to something like ‘the winged, flying animal that caws’."

- I took the background photo while hiking the Oregon Coast Range. I asked my cover artist, Isa Backhaus, to include lots of epiphytes, or plants growing on plants, in her cover illustration. The idea of ecosystems and the interconnectivity of life is core to Insiders.

- There she is, folks. The last chicken standing. The Highlander of chickens. Poor hen is on her lonesome, hanging out with sheep, ducks, and even cats. Otherwise, the entire flock has been taken, one-by-one, through predation, primarily raccoon, red-tailed hawk, and bald eagle.
