By suggesting the name change, Mr. Trump has seemingly done the impossible: Unite Iranians of all political, ideological and religious factions. They have spoken out in statements and social media posts, condemning Mr. Trump’s idea.

Yikes, what an infuriatingly indulgent and wholly characteristic headline. Next you’ll probably be writing, “Trump wants a Nobel Peace prize. Could it happen?”
Stop letting the words and whims of this megalomaniac dominate your coverage and instead focus on the real harm he’s doing to real people
Things I did not have on my 2025 bingo card:
✅ American pope
✅ Drunk Fox News host interim U.S. Attorney
✅Conspiracy theory podcaster FBI Director
✅Drunk Fox News host Defense Secretary
✅Madman and his hackers with full access to our data—including Social Security numbers
Add yours…
✅ “the sun is going to engulf the earth in a few billion years” unironically used as a reason to give elon musk hundreds of billions of dollars right now
If you’re tired of watching Chuck Schumer fold while Trump steamrolls everything in his path—do something about it.
CALL. YOUR. DEMOCRATIC SENATOR.
Tell them: we need new leadership. Schumer’s had years to rise to the moment—and he hasn’t. We need a fighter, not a doormat.
I’ve been calling Warren and Markey (and Schumer fwiw) daily for the past two months with this exact message. Was hoping they’d be tired of hearing from me by now
I get the sense that no matter how low the poll numbers were, Nate Cohn would claim they needed to drop even further for institutions like his employer to grow a spine.
“The aura of invincibility that’s helped keep his opposition in check would begin to fade [if poll numbers continued to drop]”
Today would be a great day for Chuck Schumer to announce he’s stepping aside as Senate Minority Leader and isn’t going to run for reelection when his term ends.
Agree?
There needs to be a clearer messaging that this man
1. Has no criminal record
2. Has a job here
3. Is married to a citizen
Just saying he was deported by mistake paves the way for the liars to unjustly smear him and erode what should be overwhelming public support for his return
Tomi Lahren: "If Democrats really want to die on the hill of bringing back planeloads of criminal illegal aliens gang members--"
@briantylercohen.bsky.social: "But you haven't proven that they're criminals! If you haven't afforded them due process, then you can't make that claim."
FFS. Democracy dies in endlessly, incomprehensibly giving every conceivable benefit of the doubt to the most certifiably corrupt, hypocritical, mendacious, and criminal regime one could possibly imagine
Given that the government is on record as having violated the Constitution in this case: Even (or especially) if they are “unable” to rectify this violation by returning A-G, is there not some punishment that should be incurred by those responsible for the initial violation?
…and yet they invariably foreground flagrantly mendacious quotes from the liars in power and challenge them only in fine print or at times not at all. In the case of the WH press corps, how could there be no pushback to the notion that A-G is a terrorist? …
… By allowing these vile and slanderous lies to go unchecked, they let them become true in the eyes of viewers and suddenly we’re all living in a reality where the innocent are guilty and the guilty are innocent. The press in that room is playing along with the regime and has blood on its hands.
Replying here again because this is such a cop-out post. I used to be a big fan @petersagal.bsky.social but the posts of yours that I’ve read have been disappointingly weak. Mainstream media outlets have abounding capacity to shape the public narrative on issues like this, …
This is EXACTLY how an opposition party fights back!
THANK YOU, @vanhollen.senate.gov!
Thank you for keeping this gross violation of due process and civil rights in the news!
I can't tell you how much it means to see you fight like this. I'm so grateful for my Senators.
Maryland's Sen. Chris Van Hollen said he requested a meeting with El Salvador's president to discuss the mistaken deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Van Hollen previously said he'd visit the country himself if Abrego Garcia isn't returned within days.
Agree with most of the comments here: mainstream media is not a powerless victim in this autocratic descent. If it feels strongly about fighting the regime’s unprecedented and dangerous control of speech, it has ample opportunity to do so through the…um…media landscape it controls.
NEW: A second filing today from the DOJ tells Judge Xinis that in their view, since Mr. Abrego is in Bukele's custody, she can't order them to do anything further to bring him back since that's not what "facilitate" means.
They also say the deal with Bukele is classified and/or a state secret.
NEW: DOJ doubles down on refusing to follow Judge Xinis's orders. Today's status report contains nothing new. It again fails to provide information about steps they're taking to bring Mr. Abrego back), and arguably violates her command that a declaration be made by someone with personal knowledge.
One thing I don’t really get…how is the whole CECOT arrangement not a violation of the 8th Amendment? Based on what I’ve seen, how could one argue it’s not “cruel and unusual punishment.” And all the more so if they are claiming it’s literally impossible for an innocent inmate to be released.
So given where we are now, you don’t think anyone should be trying to call out and make a prominent issue of extreme economic inequality? Or just not him?
I think that’s obvious—though I’d also say it’s independent of the “trans” factor. Again, I don’t condone crimes, whoever commits them.
Due respect, this conversation is taking too much of my Sunday. It’s been illuminating to hear your perspective—thank you for engaging—but I’m going to leave now
So do you know how often that scenario you described has happened?
At any rate, I may have some bias, but think it’s fair to call out crimes and hypocrisy wherever they happen
Do we know how many times this has happened in America in recent history? Compared to, say, the number of times a Christian conservative leader has been convicted of sex crimes?
Oh is that what happened to you? If so, I can understand your frustration. But if not, I don’t understand why you’d be more upset with poorly-paid immigrants than with oligarchs who receive billions in subsidies from the government and lobby to cut vital services to fund tax breaks for themselves
I’d be curious what this “cost” means and how it compares to the “cost” of equivalent populations of citizens (ultimately, we all cost taxpayers some amount of money on some level…unless you consume literally zero government services).
1/2
I’m also curious how the average citizen gains from demonizing and mass-deporting these immigrants. At the very least, we end up losing a lot of cheap labor, which makes things like food and construction more expensive. We also increase the per capita crime rate.
2/2
What makes you convinced that Reuters is fake news? It process facts to back up its claim. Do you know what facts back up the screen shot attached here?
Ata my rate, I notice that it says “arrests” rather than “crimes,” so on its own that statistic might be misleading.
1/2
It also doesn’t refute the claim that many immigrants contribute to the tax base (and the economy) in ways that many native-born citizens might not.
2/2
FWIW, I think “illegals” (more accurately “undocumented immigrants”) contribute more to the tax base than they take from it…unlike most actual oligarchs (e.g., musk/bezos):
“Undocumented immigrants paid nearly $97 billion in federal, state and local taxes in 2022”
BREAKING: 36k people showed up in LA for Bernie and AOC’s rally. In the off year.
Americans are pissed — and anyone ignoring that is making a big mistake.
I’m not sure what the free stuff is, and fwiw I did vote for HRC. I guess my point is, it’s not productive to be at yelling at each other right now…assuming you’re not a fan of oligarchy, I think we’re basically on the same side.
I think vast economic inequality predated Bernie calling it out in 2016. Also, are you arguing that we should not be trying to make an issue of morbid wealth concentration?
Pure absurdity. Notwithstanding the fact that fotus claimed he could fix Ukraine and Gaza in 24 hours, are we supposed to ignore the fact that the regime is actively spending millions of taxpayer dollars for El Salvador to do basically the exact thing the judges are ordering against?
“…any more than they would have the power to follow a court order commanding them to “effectuate” the end of the war in Ukraine, or a return of the hostages from Gaza”
1/2
Notwithstanding the fact that fotus campaigned on the notion that he could accomplish these things in 24 hours, how could anybody find this remotely plausible? For one thing, neither Russia nor Gaza (AFAIK) are under contract with us to do basically the exact thing the judge is ordering not to do
America, you f**ked up!
She warned us. She had a plan that would have benefited everyday Americans. But too many ignored her—because it was never really about the economy.
Now folks are scared, struggling—and we’re cooked.
Well at least the NYT did its best to convince people……that we should consider absurd, groundless promises on par with a well-reasoned, fact-based plan
