what do you envision being the screens represented by water on the world map? will they be populated and traversable the same way land screens are?
there's a lot of water travel (by boat). there are some living things, magical effects, weather etc. at sea, and you can go up rivers to get inland too. and i have some thoughts for things to do with the sea floor as well.
May 11, 2025 12:44nice, sounds awesome :) i vaguely remember you posting something about how neighboring screens affect what's shown along each other's borders. i'm curious, would the actual coastline and any ports etc show up in land or sea screens?
i think about this a lot! the current version of terrain has water on the edges of adjacent land screens, and ports would work that way too. but there could be tells on the sea side of the border too, like seaweed, swimming creatures, shallow water if i add that.
oh and also, importantly, land tiles always connect ortho. but for waterways, diagonal connections happen. and in those cases there is water in map corners.
