Love working in the space industry where we get parts from all over the world.
Let me break it down a bit:
- Our frequency reference parts: France and Germany
- Our antenna: Germany
- Our cryocooler: Japan
- The raw materials to make our boards: China
"Just use American parts"
We. Can't.
In some cases, there are no American companies. In others, those American companies do not make parts that work for our science requirements.
There's also the contribution aspect. Due to our cryocooler coming from Japan, we can work with JAXA...

Using only American parts destroys that and increases our costs to the point that NASA can't fund us.
