Artist and microscopist. MFA art + technology, but work in a neuro lab by day. Insects, neurons, electron microscopy… follow me to see lots of plankton videos…

- Was going to rest today but got distracted watching decomposition under the microscope. The bosmina from Chandler pond were starting to decompose, so I did timelapse of bacteria trails (and occasional ciliates). Really quite haunting watching the bacteria start to take over. #sciart #microscopy
- First plankton painting workshop at Artisans Asylum went great! I hope to do many more. Everyone got time to scope and left with a print. 4th pic/painting reminds me of constellations. Anyone looking for educational art/science workshops in the northeast hit me up. #microscopy #timelapse #sciart
- omg. my sis crocheted a bunch of plankton (etc) including a copepod! I’ve decided the sombrero worm and copepod are friends- what should I name them? Between this and Paul’s cartoons this week I’m in nerd heaven. #sciart #microscopy
- Big plankton poster is printed, it was labor of love. I wanted something with the major groups and stuff we see a lot that I can point to during workshops. The zooplankton cartoons make great coloring pages too! #plankton #sciart #microscopy
- Yessss. Zooplankton cartoons! :) Many thanks Paul, @phyrexianmetamour.bsky.social for these amazing critter cartoons in the style of pokemon. Rotifer, ciliate, cladoceran & copepod- loving the 'speed' of the copepod, the 'ear' motion of the rotifer, etc. These bring me joy. #microscopy #sciart

- Plankton stickersss! I managed to get some funded to go on kids timelapse prints at workshops. Illustrations by David Seamer, species printed on the back. Hoping to get even more species made! #microscopy #sciart Thanks @stickerapp.bsky.social
- Super weird debris covered thing ‘walking’ on a diatom from the charles river, with another diatom attached to it, along for the ride. For the life of me could not make out what it was. #sciart #microscopy #plankton
- Just got a 20x phase apo and I am STOKED. ‘Fireworks’ pic shows timelapse of chydorus (similar to daphnia) decomposing, cells oozing out and being swept away by the currents of vorticella growing on it. #sciart #microscopy
- More timelapse plankton from the Charles river, first pic is w/ phase contrast. Heavy with Synura trails. I never noticed before but the Synura have this little green dot in their flagella under fluorescence, super cool. #sciart #microscopy
- Charles river is very active! Quite liking how some of these ‘paintings’ turned out. Just tons of life. #microscopy #sciart #chronophotography
- Final class, the Art of Microscopy. I did a presentation on plankton identification then students got to make timelapse ‘paintings’ and print them. I hope to teach with Gary again soon. 2nd pic- pollen/anther under fluorescence taken by a student. #sciart #microscopy
- Spring has sprung. Lots of euglena in Halls pond right now, making the red trails around the plant debris in the second pic (timelapse). So excited the ponds aren’t frozen any more. #sciart #microscopy #fluorescencemicroscopy
- Art of Microscopy at Artisans Asylum day 2! Gary did a great job instructing how to mod microscopes for colorful pics of crystals.
- Only 1 left in my microscopy course! Starts saturday at Artisans Asylum in Boston. www.eventbrite.com/e/the-art-of... #sciart
- Can anyone id the growth on these fibers, collected among plankton from Boston harbor? First pic has a very interesting blob growing on it too.... I'd like to learn more about bacterial & algal growth on microplastics/fibers, and how they get incorporated into marine snow #microscopy #microplastics

- For #fluorescencefriday I present: stoma falling into the abyss, on a dying flower. The other tech gave me beautiful purple flowers for my birthday and I just had to take a look. In microscopy I’m always interested how things tear/break/rip and otherwise fall apart... #microscopy #sciart
- When someone in my neighborhood group made a plea for stickers to cover an RFK sticker in a prominent location, I knew I had to dust off my cricut. Copepods are plankton that embody the resistance to me- they make up 40% of all plankton biomass, just wildly successful creatures. #microscopy
- My best friend Natasha of Wicked Cute Confections made me erotic plankton cookies for my 40th birthday and they turned out AMAZING. From suggestive diatoms to a vorticella corset, tardigrade panties, and a dinobryon peen- I’m just in love with these. Highly recommend her for any custom cookies.
- My install at Cornell’s department of natural resources, featuring a ‘rotifer altar’ and an amoeba ‘painting’. Gotta keep busy. #sciart #microscopy #womenartists
