more seriously, if i had to narrow down themes for every game i've experienced so far i'd say 1 is about isolation, 2 is about paranoia and fear of the future, 3 is about grief and loss, 4 is literally about facing your own death......... if they came out in 2025, those guys would shit on them
and while i wouldn't say even by a longshot that those games are progressive...... their ideas are
