- 🏴🇪🇺The EU’s values of human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law and respect for human rights are the values of Scotland. The best future for Scotland is rejecting the folly of Brexit and rejoining the European Union as a member state.

- The top-class journalism Kirsty Wark has produced over some years (and the forensic political questioning many of us have experienced), make her a worthy winner of a BAFTA fellowship. Chapeau to Alan Cumming for his stellar hosting, too. 2 Scots at the top of their game.
- Scot Gov’s Meeting Scotland’s Migration Needs strategy points out that maintaining even modest economic growth requires net migration of around 25,000 a year—levels that Westminster’s new cap will make impossible. It seems now Starmer is interested in grievance - not growth.
- Extremely moving debate in the Scottish Parliament with powerful speeches for and against assisted dying legislation. The bill passed at stage one by 70 votes to 56, with one abstention. I voted in favour.
- Host Alan Cumming and lifetime achievement award winner Kirsty Wark were highlights of this week’s #Baftas - as always both are fantastic examples of top-tier Scottish talent. www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/opinion...

- Starmer entered politics citing moral duty and internationalism. In desperation to retain the power he so recently acquired—and that he can see is slipping away—he is turning into a Farage apologist. Zero credibility. www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/opinion...

- Scotland’s demographic challenges are distinct to the rest of the UK. We don’t need the UK government pandering to Farage, with a a one size fits all immigration policy that will damage the Scottish education and care sectors and economy more generally. www.gov.scot/publications...

- Great new initiative from Euan’s Guide charity: The Accessible Edinburgh guide, in partnership with Forever Edinburgh, maps out the city’s recent accessibility improvements while acknowledging the work still to come.

- We were repeatedly told that the notion Boris Johnson could become prime minister was nonsense. Let us learn from this very real lesson. Let us take seriously the fact there is a very real and credible possibility that Nigel Farage could enter Downing Street.

- Eighty years on from the defeat of fascism young men and women in Ukraine are fighting and dying to defend freedom and European values. They need our support.
- We were told Boris Johnson would never become Prime Minister. We must learn lessons to ensure Nigel Farage does not follow in his path. www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/opinion...

- Thanks to the hundreds of European festival delegates in Edinburgh for the arts festivals summit, and all Scottish partners who helped host the event. It was an honour to address delegates from European Festivals Association about Edinburgh, the world capital of festivals. 🏴🌍
- Congrats to new German Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil. Look forward to continuing German - Scottish cooperation and dialogue, like here at Ludwig Erhard Summit 🏴🇩🇪
- 🚨Constituents: please be aware of plans to switch off RTS meters in June. ⚡️Ensure your meter has been switched to a smart meter and, if not, contact your energy supplier in haste.
- Scotland is an internationally-oriented European nation. An ever growing number of countries have been opening, upgrading and sustaining their consular presence to ensure their interests are fully met. The consular corps in Scotland is a credit to the countries they serve. 🏴🌍
- Constituents should check whether they have been switched from an RTS energy meter. June’s switch off of this system could leave some households without heating or hot water. More info👇https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/avoid-higher-energy-costs-angus-robertson-5103600
- Good to be out campaigning in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse with the excellent Katy Loudon #ActiveSNP #VoteSNP
- SNP VICTORY🚨 5th by-election win for the SNP in a row. Labour miles behind with Farage-ists overtaking Tories. Congrats to Lynda Holton! 👏🏴
- Greatly value the work the US Consulate in Edinburgh does for the US community in Scotland, thousands of US visitors to Scotland and supporting Scottish-US cultural, educational and economic ties. Many thanks to Consul General Kathryn Porter and colleagues at US Consulate in Scotland.
- 📰This week’s Edinburgh Evening News columns: 🇻🇦Tribute to Pope Francis & condolences to the Catholic community. ❌Threat from Farage & the First Minister’s conference to take on the far-right (today). 🏆Nominations open for the Edinburgh Award.
- Happy St George’s Day to all English constituents, friends and family
- I strongly welcome First Minister John Swinney’s decision to convene a summit on tackling the threat from the far-right, and he is totally correct to exclude Nigel Farage and his party from the conversation.
- Nominations are now open for the 2025 Edinburgh Award – an honour that recognises those whose exceptional contributions have helped shape our capital and promote it on the national and global stage.
