- We are at Delaney Hall today, alongside our community and elected officials, to demand accountability and transparency. Instead, we have seen our community and elected officials disrespected by masked federal agents, and the arrest of our Mayor Ras Baraka. 1/7May 9, 2025 22:44
- A mayor who represents thousands of our members, hard-working residents and voters of Newark. We demand he be immediately released. 2/7
- Though we are appalled by the escalation of the targeting and arrest of the sitting mayor of the largest city in our state – and the disregard of norms and democratic accountability – we are not surprised. 3/7
- We are not surprised, because this is just the latest example of a culture of impunity, lawlessness and inhumane conduct that we have seen from this federal administration and its agents. So while alarmed, we are not shaken. 4/7
- We know that what happens to Mayor Baraka today pales in comparison to what takes place in these detention centers. And that’s where we will continue to focus our attention. 5/7
- We are resolved and take from today renewed determination to wrest back our rights and our democracy from the clutches of division, xenophobia and impunity as we fight for a society and government that prioritizes the needs and rights of working people. 6/7
- Thank you representatives @repbonnie.bsky.social Watson Coleman, Rep Robert Menendez, and @replamonica.bsky.social McIver, for standing up for our communities and demanding transparency today. 7/7
