- "In Saint Andrews in Scotland, students and tutors at the then-young university were forbidden from ‘bringing in the May’ while disguised as monarchs" - fascinating given the Kate Kennedy parade happening this time of year & other May Day traditions at St A. What's the source for this info?
- Happy Beltane everyone! Here's an illustration I did a few years ago of a young Irish woman leading her cow through the Beltane fires. 🔥🐮🔥 #Beltane #WitchSky #MedievalSky 🗃️ womenof1000ad.weebly.com/moacuter.html
- ⭐ NEW! ⭐ Steinunn Refsdóttir is the latest Woman of 1000! A pagan poet devoted to Thor, she had a legendary confrontation with a Christian missionary that pitted Thor against Christ in an epic poetic smackdown! Learn more on the website: womenof1000ad.weebly.com/steinunn-ref... #MedievalSky 🗃️
- She's pictured here with her son Hofgarða-Refr, who went on to be a poet of great renown himself, persisting in writing pagan poetry after it was no longer acceptable to do so in Scandinavian royal courts.

- There was a timeout issue so I didn't see my score, but I got most of them right - still more to learn though!! Great quiz, thanks for sharing.
- What are you reading this week? Non-fiction: The Works of Song Dynasty poet Li Qingzhao. Too bad she lived in the 12th century & not 1000 - she's just the kind of woman I enjoy including in my project! Fiction: The second Earthsea book. I'm enjoying it so far - very different from the first one! 📚
- Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs. (“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

- This is SUCH a fantastic film!
- This is my life right now. I'm on an interruption of studies from my PhD waiting for a laparoscopy. I've had symptoms of endometriosis for 19 years & have been actively seeking a diagnosis for 6 years. The medical misogyny I've faced is infuriating & so damaging in the long term.

- Sneak preview of my current WIP - Steinunn Refsdóttir, an Icelandic skald who famously opposed a Christian missionary through her poetry. Looking forward to sharing her story!

- Wow, that was interesting! I had no idea the first use of the St George's flag was in the conquest of Wales.
- WOW! Check out the beautiful first entry in @norree.bsky.social's new Pokedex challenge!
- Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Just some basic fact-checking would be nice. Anyway, I wrote about Eostre here: florencehrs.substack.com/p/eostre-pag...
- ‘The Easter bunny was a hare long before he was a rabbit; the hare was sacred to Eostre, the Saxon goddess of spring – no rabidly cute bundle of fluff.’ Katherine Rundell considers the hare: www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
- Great read as usual! One question. I love Ronald Hutton and always recommend him for holiday origin questions. But how well does he know Old English? I'm wondering about the basis of the "beginning month" or "opening month" claim.
- Trans women & transfeminine people have ALWAYS been a part of history! To act otherwise is to impose violent colonial gender norms onto Indigenous cultures & their history. Pictured here are the two transfems in my Women of 1000 project so far, in Unangan (Aleut) & Samoan history. #MedievalSky 🗃️

View full threadWhen the UKSC issues a transphobic ruling in 2025, it is continuing the long history of Western imperial states enforcing their violent gender binary. The regressive "cause" of For Women Scotland is the latest in a long history of the imperial state violence that transphobia is rooted in.
- No real shock here from Rowling, whose "A History of Magic in North America" was possibly the most racist thing she's ever written. Wealthy, white imperial elites like her who fight to enshrine transphobia in law continue a long, historic crusade against Indigenous & other philosophies of gender.
- And when I say "violent," I am NOT exaggerating. Two-Spirits (pan-Native umbrella term) were targeted by boarding schools & other colonial missions with violence, imprisonment & humiliation to enforce a Western gender binary. This violence continues today. transgenderlawcenter.org/roots-anti-t...
- This is awesome!!
- A film that takes place where you're from
- Drop some HEADWEAR!
- OK, this is so cool! Hoping the results get confirmed...! "In the few years that the James Webb Space Telescope has been operating, he says, scientists have learned more about these planets' atmospheres than in the entire three decades before."
- So amazing seeing my Star Trek RPG character in Sacha's style!!!! ❤️🖖
- Mine is Jevala, the bottom middle character of the third pic. She is from Risa and is a rare Risian to join Starfleet! After seeing the galaxy come to Risa, she wanted to see the galaxy herself!
