He didn't do it to people who had legal status. He did not reverse legal status of groups. As of a couple of months ago they were equal in deportation levels. Of course he never drummed up BS on migrants to ship them to concentration camps. And he never swept up students for free speech.
the deportation engine is so grotesquely bloated that it deports hundreds of citizens and legal residents every year.

I'm a progressive who comes from a communist family. My grandfather used to say, "Everything will be ok when the revolution comes." Turns out communism is the one type of government that never becomes a democracy. Economics and reality are complex issues. Immigration can happen with humane control.
