- Two British academics discovered that a "copy" of Magna Carta, held in Harvard Law School’s library for 80 years, is one of seven originals dating from 1300. Read more: nyti.ms/4dkc3ma
- It should be repatriated to the UK.
- Brexit was falsely presented as a beacon of hope for a better future. In reality, it has left the majority of people worse off. The UK must strengthen its ties with Europe to protect the people of Wales, our communities and our economy. 🏴🇪🇺
- We need a public inquiry into the economic impact of Brexit
- Ben of Ben & Jerry’s *arrested* after confronting RFK Jr. & Congress: "They need to let food into Gaza. They need to let food to starving kids! Congress is paying to bomb poor kids in Gaza, and paying for it by kicking poor kids off Medicaid in the US!"
- I’m glad he’s spoken up. The lack of food and other essential items in the territory is unacceptable and needs to be addressed immediately.
- The Tories' contempt for scientific evidence is profoundly dangerous. The climate crisis is the single greatest threat to future generations, we need action now.
- Of course they are! They are biased to preventing a climate catastrophe for future generations.
- The U.S. welcome mat is rolling up — at least that’s how some international travelers see it, according to a global organization representing the travel and tourism industry. It could cost the U.S. billions.
- Great news for other destinations around the world. Plus it helps achieve the ambition that so many Americans voted for, isolation and insularity.

- It’s a 300 year old issue. I view the treaty of Utrecht as an historical document rather than a legal document. The Gibraltar people are predominantly Roman Catholic, also speak Spanish(with English) and are pro European. It’s a no brainier to return the territory to Spain.
- Over 70 former #Eurovision contestants call for Israel to be banned from competition
- Just remember that Israel has the most LGBTQI+ friendly laws. In contrast to the occupied territories where they face persecution and death.

- The term “alleged genocide” is at present the only correct description that can be used. An ICC arrest warrant has already been issued and only a court can determine if an act constitutes genocide. It’s purely a legal term and should not be used in a political context.
- Had I a vote I would support the assisted dying bill. I've seen too many horrible deaths, including my own mum's.
- My dad suffered before his death from cancer and I’m sure he would have chosen this option out of desperation. I can’t see this ever being a free choice.

- The idea of this terrifies me. Experience abroad shows that once we cross the assisted dying rubicon, other liberalisations inevitably follow. I fear we want to feel like a more liberal humane society by backing something antithetical to being civilised.

- We are all entitled to suicide prevention even if our health fails.
- The termination of the status comes as the Trump administration fast-tracked the classification of refugees for white South Africans who landed in the U.S. Monday at Dulles International Airport in Virginia. minnesotareformer.com/2025/05/12/r...
- Any chance the USA can take our racists?
- Is Fotus going to provide white robes and hoods for the South African "refugees"? Will there be MAGA hats & Trump Bibles in their welcome pack? SMH, I welcome all refugees but why do these folks get to jump the line to fast tracked citizenship? Obviously because their Elon's white buddies! 🤬
- Some of them look shady, not the type I’d want to meet in a dark alley.
- So the Scottish taxpayer has been billed £60,000,000 by the English government to help a Spanish company supply England with power taken from Scotland… Anyone see the fukn problem with that?? Better together, I THINK NOT!!!!!
- I don’t think England has a government, although some have called for an English parliament on the same lines as Scotland.
- I have Egyptian, Australian, Polish, South African, Canadian, Norwegian, Iranian, Irish and British born neighbours, and we can barely get down the road without having a good old natter. If that's a Land of Strangers then bring it on.
- Well I think they mean the type of strangers that don’t have conversational English.
- Trump: South Africans must be saved… whites only of course
- A large number of speakers of the Afrikaans language are of mixed race. I don’t think we’ll see any.
- The Trump administration on Monday welcomed a small group of white South Africans as refugees, saying they face discrimination and violence at home, which the country’s government strongly denies. www.pbs.org/newshour/wor...
- Soon you’ll see a US version of Orania. A self governing whites only town. I’m serious, there’s an infamous one called Orania in South Africa
- Afghans who made the mistake of trusting the United States died horribly. I don't think most people realize the extent and depth of that betrayal I hope everyone involved in the decision to abandon them and embrace the fucking Afrikaners receives everything they deserve
- Look at history, never trust the USA. They did it to their allies in south Vietnam. Some even held out hope that the Americans would come back for them. No such luck. Uncle Sam will drop you as quickly as a whores pair of knickers.
- Trump’s South Africa “white refugees” have started to arrive, had their process expedited and will receive government benefits.
- I bet they can’t believe their luck. Laughing all the way past immigration control!
- Why trying to out-Farage Farage is just never going to work for Labour. The most hardline, anti-migrant set of policies from any UK Government in recent years and the Daily Mail still portrays it as a betrayal
- And coming soon, Farage defends immigration, albeit in a limited and nebulous way!
- 2025: Keir Starmer suggests that pressure on housing and public services is because of migrants 2020: Keir Starmer, "Poor housing, poor public services are not the fault of the migrants, they're political failure"
- If you invite too many people to dinner, there’s not enough food to go around. It’s not the fault of the excess guests, it’s the fault of those managing the guest list. The tories invited everyone and now Labour are having to deliver this bad news.
- Time for Scottish Labour to jettison its Westminster faithful MSPs (Sarwar, Baillie), move left, and prepare for independence, when it can be true to its roots. UK Labour has firmly slammed the door on socialism.
- Just waiting for the People’s Democratic Socialist Republic of Scotland to emerge out the ashes!
- This won't have much impact on net migration, but will hinder integration, promote "churn", and increase hardship. Mean-spirited, unnecessary, and unpopular. www.ft.com/content/f844...
- It adds value to becoming a British Citizen, no longer an extra few pieces of paper easily obtained. In San Marino, applicants have to wait 35 years to apply for citizenship so it’s quite generous in comparison. We also allow applicants to retain their original nationality.

- It was that bloody pie warmer again!
- NEW: Keir Starmer says he wants to close a “squalid chapter” in our country’s history as he sets out measures to reduce immigration. Starmer says between 2019-2023 while Tories were “telling people with a straight face that they would get net migration down”, it quadrupled.
- It was music to my ears. Totally took all the wind out of Farage’s vile rhetoric
- Shameful bullish. What's done incalculable damage is a decade of pernicious falsehoods about immigration, while people who should know better refuse to counter the lies of the increasingly normalised far right. Let's tackle those lies:
- These are age old problems faced by the ancient Britons through to the Saxons and Norse migrants. In this modern age, we have a civilised bureaucracy to manage the type of society we want for the future and to ensure social cohesion going forward.
- Keir Starmer appears to be directly invoking Enoch Powell's rivers of blood speech in his speech introducing his new fascist immigration bill
- Hardly.
- Starmer calls immigration policy over the past years a 'squalid' period. What a choice of language.
- I think it’s refreshing to hear a PM being direct. The way I see it is that you don’t call a brothel a gentleman’s entertainment club. It’s a brothel. Similarly, the immigration system is squalid and not simply in need of reform.
- LEFT: Trump says they’ve agreed to a trade deal with China. RIGHT: China says they’ve “reached an agreement” to talk more.
- The question Trump and his administration need to be asking themselves is what can the USA do for China?
- "We’re royally screwed…" "Even if the net migration figures come down to zero, where are all the people currently making you feel 'uncomfortable' going to go?" @mrjamesob.bsky.social worries that Keir Starmer’s plan to reduce migration will backfire.
- Will people leave? Yes. Will we have a shortage in the workforce for a time? Yes. Will this cause distress for some? Yes. But the end result will be an increase in skills and employment of the British workforce.

- Starmer has really hit the nail on the head here. Taking politics out of the debate and ending the bizarre Tory mass migration experiment.

- Exactly my concern. All this amounts to a shop of horrors and a culture that will eventually provide elective death on demand. In the Netherlands they have a concept of completed life for people who are old but not ill and want to die.

- It truly is a shop of horrors. Whatever happened to suicide prevention?

- What a humiliating climb down for Trump. Doubtless this has given him sleepless nights and I’m certain this pause will be of great relief to business leaders in the USA. Doubtless there is damage already done and this will have to be financially absorbed out of businesses’ profits.

- Greater London feels the same I’m sure but the union is the state. The referendum in 2014 settled the issue of Scottish independence and I was hoping they would go for it. Democracy sometimes is cruel.

- It’s a reasonable expectation that those applying for citizenship are of good character and have a history of not going against public policy. If I were to attempt to enter the UK without a valid travel document, I would be arrested. It’s against the law!

- Or more to the point, Scotland was never a member. The UK was a member and left.
- There are people who believe the moon landing was staged but this wasn’t.
- What most people don’t know is that the later moon landings, those involving the lunar buggy, were actually filmed in Hertfordshire in the UK on a closed set at the insistence of Stanley Kubrick.
- 🇺🇦🇻🇦 Pope Leo XIV: “I carry in my heart the suffering of the beloved Ukrainian people. May everything possible be done to achieve a true, just and lasting peace as soon as possible. May all prisoners be released and children returned to their families.”

- We need proportional representation, and we need it now. So, why isn't it being discussed? www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/05...
- You’d be asking the two big parties to give up their advantage. No reason at all why they would want this.
- Ukraine war live: Zelenskyy welcomes Putin calls for talks but says Russia must agree to ‘full, lasting, reliable’ ceasefire
- Putin is pre contemplative as far as recognising he can’t win the war. He’s not there yet and I suspect he will come to the table only after he captures Kyiv.
- 🤡 Putin has made it clear: first, negotiations on the causes, then talks on a ceasefire. Kyiv misread Putin’s statement regarding talks, - Zakharova
- He’s still at the pre contemplative stage. Essentially he wants talks about possible future talks.
- Even Putin would be embarrassed by this.
