- Deadline extended for my fully-funded #PhD position - apply by 7th May! Come and work with me & join the UCL Cognitive Hearing Lab: bit.ly/3RAEYZ8 The studentship is funded by RNID and will help make noisy environments easier for people with hearing loss
- Took the 9yo for an amazing bat walk this evening with saveleatherlane-wp.org.uk . Saw or heard at least 4 different species and now wondering if it’s too late for the lab to switch to echolocation 🤔 if you’re in or near the #chilterns you should go too! 🦇 👂
- Reposted by Jenny Bizleyas an experiment in academic internet stuff I made a 'new-auditory' list for folks interested in audition, hearing, speech, music etc anybody can join at groups.google.com/g/new-audito... the 30-year-old AUDITORY list is v cool but has many drawbacks, not least that it runs on 30-yr-old tech
- Skills needed for a systems #neuroscience PI: carpentry, micro-soldering, surgery, coding, analysis, writing, people management... and yoga moves -- to get into a testing arena, and then fix stuff while balancing on the only non 'acoustically transparent' (i.e. fixed) part of the floor 🤷♀️ #neverbored
- Had a wonderful day of science yesterday at the @champalimaudr.bsky.social giving a talk and being part of a thesis Jury. Big congrats to Mafalda and the Renart Lab! #🧠 #neuroscience
- Reposted by Jenny BizleyOK here it is, the moment you have all been waiting for! Our advert for 5 posts here at Glasgow: Cognitive neuroscience/psychology. Closing date May 12 - please spread the word www.nature.com/naturecareer...
- Checked one off the trail-running bucket list yesterday - Ashridge boundary run - 17+ miles of stunning(ly hilly) "fun" #chilterns #trailrunning #ridgeway
- Using my gran’s ancient (vintage?) sewing machine to hem a new curtain for our speaker grid setup. Love the contrast between state of the art behaviour/tracking/neuropixels and my dodgy sewing skills — and so excited for the data beginning to emerge 🤓 🧠 #neuroscience

- Reposted by Jenny BizleyI keep reading such things and want to mention applications are open in the German Lise Meitner program for excellent female scientists, who typically already have leadership experience. It is the breeding ground for future MPI directors. Maybe you can point some folks to it that may match.

- Last week staff in our facility got worried that the acoustic foam that lined the lab was flammable. Today I’m filming myself burning acoustic foam on my hob amidst the sourdough and gingerbread. It doesn’t 🔥 quoting @amitkhandhadia.bsky.social, it’s a christmas miracle🎄 🧠

- Huge congrats to Jules (not on 🦋) for his successful PhD defense yesterday - watch out for his trademark Breton top, and beautiful work looking at how auditory cortex deals with noise (hopefully early next year 🤞🏻) #neuroscience #neuroskyence 🧠
- Today we said goodbye to an RA who has a new position elsewhere. His first job was to train a DLC model to track ferrets so I made him this cake (it tasted better than it looked!)… #neuroscience #neuroskyence 🧠
