Apologies Colin for not being clearer in my post above…. That’s my point. Due to Brexit, the UK is now in a situation where they are allowing French/EU authorities to hold more of your personal data (fingerprints) than your own UK government.
Wasn’t the whole point of Brexit about British sovereignty over any foreign governments? Yet, due to Brexit, France/EU have the fingerprint data of British citizens that our own UK government does not have that data of its citizens.
Brits travel to the EU over 60 million times each year. Thats roughly 1 visit each year by every British citizen.
In just a few years, EU will build a comprehensive fingerprint database of everyone in UK.
The UK govt’s own fingerprint database of Brits is only about 5% of what EU will soon have.
Mar 15, 2025 09:23We should just reciprocate and take all EU citizens fingerprints and then share the data with the 5 eyes.
Or much more simple for everyone, we could rejoin EU as EU does not require fingerprinting of any EU citizens on entry to EU.
There is no way we will be joining the EU in 6 months - so best to fight fire with fire to get them yo the negotiating table.
We should also be looking at removing EGate access for any citizens whose country doesn't reciprocate plus we should be looking at reducing the visa free time in the UK to 30 days from 180.
This would obviously not apply to countries that give the UK a reciprocal deal.
Also require a return ticket, prearranged hotel booking and a full itin as some of our "allies" already do
There should also be variance in visa prices and naturalisation requirements depending on nationality - e.g. the Spanish should pay more and take longer
