- The most charitable interpretation of the GOP's 2023 map is that legislative Republicans preferred to hand redistricting over to the courts rather than do it themselves and risk attack in a primary for "helping Democrats." If that was the plan, they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.
- That's darkly hilarious. But surely they could have simply *not* passed a new map at all, no? That was an approach originally taken by Louisiana Republicans in their very similar case (though they ultimately did pass a compliant map).
- That was an option but someone seems to have convinced them that they could pass a noncompliant map, go the U.S. Supreme Court and *somehow* change Kavanaugh’s mind. The AG’s filings in the second round tried to invoke his rulings to a cringeworthy-extent.
