- VERY excited about that one in particular...
- CAUGHT BY THE TIDES is ~a scrapbook ~a Hail Mary experiment ~a history lesson ~a testament to a world-cinema giant ~a reminder of the power of the close-up (that Zhao Tao shot near the end...) ~a masterpiece, or something close to it, 20 years in the making www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

- Let's talk THUNDERBOLTS: The Meta-MCU Fresh-Blood-and-Old-Faces Franchise Revival Florence Pugh Blues Explosion — no spoilers but reposting this now that it's been out a few days and more than just press folks and breathless quote harlots have seen it... www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

- G*arrgghh! T*Y!
- Wrote a little bit about RUST, which gets a limited opening today, and in another world would just be the sort of pleasant diversion you'd happily watch on Starz at 1am on a Tuesday. It is... not that. www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
- Gary Cooper, the strong silent type, wants you to get on on the ground floor and buy this book.
- Ok. So. It's pub day. My book GANDOLFINI: JIM, TONY, AND THE LIFE OF A LEGEND is out today. And as I'm sure you've heard from other authors, first week sales really do matter so much! So I'm gonna sell a bit. www.abramsbooks.com/product/gand...
- I've listened to this maybe two dozen times today and dear god I cannot wait for this new HAIM album... www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVtg...

- Yes.
- Still think that Lesley Manville in PHANTOM THREAD is, even after all the awards and accolades given at the time, one of *the* great unsung screen performances of the last 10 years. Just grace notes galore here.
- Feels absolutely ridiculous to be posting about movies/ pimping my reviews right now tbh...but David Cronenberg's THE SHROUDS is a movie that's haunted me over several viewings and I hope folks make the effort to see it. Opens this weekend NY/LA, nationally 4/25 www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

- eXistenZ plays better now, actually, given the quantum leaps (and extra added existential handwringing) over tech and tech creators since '99; Crash will always be weird and wonderful and sick and fucked up no matter when/what/where. Both TOTALLY worth a rewatch

- The struggle is all too real
- If you can see ONE TO ONE: JOHN & YOKO—the absolutely essential doc on the duo's early, politically radicalized years in NYC—in IMAX this weekend, go. Go now. Walk away from the laptop. Then read this interview with director Kevin Macdonald on the making of it. www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
- Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza's WARFARE is anything but hardcore war-nography. It is, however, some pure, uncut Unit-Cohesion porn. Highly recommended. 📽️ www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
- Totally psyched to be in New Orleans as a guest of the Overlook Film Festival, was even more psyched (and moved) to see this photo up on the wall of the Prytania Uptown Theater…
- Bye, Val, thanks for all the huckleberries... (and also a hearty grazie to @angiemartoccio.bsky.social and @joeyblueclaw.bsky.social for their help with this) www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
- I mean, to its credit: It is "a" Minecraft movie... 📽️ www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
- Half of my feed is posting an extremely disturbing video of unidentified feds kidnapping a college student and the other half is posting about Avengers casting news and I understand why virtually everyone I know is on the verge of having a complete nervous breakdown.
- Zach Baron's interview with Ben Affleck over at GQ is, per usual, a fucking great read, but it's also an excuse to shout out Affleck's work in THE WAY BACK, which continues to be one of those "oh, wow!" all-timer performances for me...
- Beard Goals
- They say "don't meet your heroes" but I dunno, I met one of mine and he was pretty fucking awesome tbh. Stephen Graham weighs in on the who, what, when, how and — most importantly — why behind ADOLESCENCE. www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

- That was on my to-watch list before I talked to him, and didn't get around to it...gonan catch up with it ASAP. If you can find it online or have access to Channel 4 online in UK, check out THE VIRTUES, a four-part series he did with Shane Meadows in 2019. Absolutely devastating, brilliant.
- If this THR list gets *even* *one* *person* to check out the stone-cold masterpiece that is LAST NIGHT, then it will have all been worth it... www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/best-c...
- No, seriously, you will likely fuggeddaboutit... THE ALTO KNIGHTS, aka De Niro Con: The Movie www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
- Cosign. Way better than the franchise as a whole deserved, tbh.
- Someone pointed out that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Adam Sandler's Citizen Kane, aka BILLY MADISON — and reminded me that I'd written about it for the 20th anniversary. Still a masterpiece (the movie, not the article). Stop looking at me, swan!!! 📽️ www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
- OUR CHILDREN is one of my favorite movies of all time, and her turn in ROSETTA is still one of those performances I think about a lot. Huge, huge loss. www.france24.com/en/live-news...
- I try to post more positive stuff to counteract the cresting-tsunami shitshow that is our world rn, but — THE ELECTRIC STATE isn't *just* a bad movie. It also represents a bigger issue that's depressing, regrettable and a variation of an age-old problem. 📽️ www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

- Netflix still makes/underwrites/platforms great original films (Rebel Ridge, Athena) and incredible TV shows (Adolescence, Asura), and I mention in the piece they’re not the only offenders, but yes — the Enshitification Struggle Is Real.
- Philip Seymour Hoffman is in HARD EIGHT for three minutes, and in that time you get a fully realized asshole, complete with cock-of-the-walk showboating, adolescent insecurity, hero worship, pin-pricks of self-loathing. I've watched that scene 100 times & it never ceases to knock me the fuck out. 📽️
- "Coming soon to theaters that once showed THE BRUTALIST, MOONLIGHT, the SHOAH restoration that one time for a benefit, and the director's cut of 1900..." www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqnR...
- I've seen Soderbergh's BLACK BAG twice already, and likely gonna see it a third time this weekend. Would watch on a plane, on a train, on a boat, with a goat. Lotta fun, lotta chemistry, the sort of spy thriller both Ian Fleming and Ingmar Bergman would love. www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

- As a die-hard Stephen Graham fan, I'd have caught up with ADOLESCENCE eventually. Then @sepinwall.bsky.social inspired me to fast-track it—and it's the best thing I've seen on TV in ages. Like THE WIRE for male rage, w/ four single-shot eps standing in for full seasons. Absofuckinglutely astounding.

- I'm a huge fan of Rungano Nyoni's debut 'I Am Not a Witch,' and that still didn't prepare me for ON BECOMING A GUINEA FOWL. Great opening, an even better ending. www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

- I once predicted that, a century from now, people will look back and view the slogan "M*ke Am•rica Great Again" as the absolute epitome of irony. Currently revising said declaration by roughly 99 years, 11 months, 30 days and 22 hours.
