People are bringing up all the unfamiliar terms as barriers to reading comprehension and it strikes me that avid reader of science fiction and fantasy I'm accustomed to unfamiliar terms and just rolling with them until I piece together context. Probably makes reading older prose less of a chore!
this is a really thoughtful study and response so i'm being intentionally reductive here: it's so funny to make a bunch of 18-20 year olds read this and then wonder why they're having a hard time
