There are no emergencies except the ones trump causes.

Trumpublicans always cloak wrongdoing under the guise of "emergencies" and leave it to concerned parties to sue them to stop. By the time the cases are settled, irreparable harm oftentimes has already occurred.

The emergency is that the bottom will fall out for the industry in the next 18 to 24 months. Electricity will take over in the next 10 years. That is the real energy carrier, and batteries will cause the disruption. Oil and gas are not 'energy', they're pollutants.

The problem with laws which give a president extraordinary powers in an "emergency" lies in who defines "emergency." Legislators writing such laws may not realize that corrupt presidents may falsely declare an "emergency" in order to gain and consolidate their power.

Nobody is going to take him up on it with oil & gas prices declining like they are. Oil is barely break even right now. Natural gas lost 1/3 of its value since he took office. Coal doesn't look too great either.

Luckily, the bottom will fall out for fossil energy soon enough... The US putting a huge tariff on batteries won't stop the rest of the world from continuing with the transition anyway. In 10 years time, oil and gas are a stranded asset
