- Just got 6 Hybrid American Chestnut trees that are resistant to the blight that killed 3 billion chestnut trees in the eastern U.S. in the early 1800’s. Chestnut trees are quite beautiful and provide food for the deer. My children and grandchildren will live to see them in our woods.

- Botany i.d. help, please? Anyone know what this is? I've seen it a couple of times, seems to be associated w/some bagged mulch. Looks like spray foam, eventually deflates and turns dark brown. Thinking some kind of fungus? Thanks. I'm in zone 9a if that helps. N Central FL.
- It's a slime mold, which is not a type of fungus, but a protist. Yes, probably dog vomit slime mold. BTW, there is a Mexican slime mold that is, supposedly, edible. The false puffball, E. lycoperdon. "Caca de luna," to the locals. I think they are just having the gringos on 😂

- I read some guys n gals in white lab coats sampled some of the cooked detritus on the bottom of large Jōmon cooking vessels found high in the mountains, far from the coast. Someone hauled lots of seafood for a communal bouillabaisse a long way 10K+ years ago!
