They also read out a lot of excerpts from romance novels with graphic details to the livestream, where children were watching.

Some Calvary Chapel folks were almost my in-laws once upon a time. Anti-queer jokes from the pulpit and a short service opening interpreting “spare the rod, spoil the child”. In other words, not surprised in the least.
FYI - there is deep lore about the woman coordinating the book banning. Her name is Karen England. Shes the top book banner in the US. And she runs these dirty book clubs for folks like Jack Hibbs / Calvalry chapel.

Ugh... Calvary Chapel. I grew up in CC Costa Mesa. Went to the K-12 stapled onto the flagship church started by Chuck Smith, mostly for the church's tax write-off, I'm sure. Was in that church, hard, for the first 19 years of my life before I escaped and am still in therapy in my 40s.

Calvary Chapel is so bonkers. I had a friend once who grew up in that church and she was so damaged emotionally she could barely function.
