- Northern Parula (Setophaga americana) This is a really small warbler, but she came quite close while I was in the blind, so I filled the frame and got every tiny feather! #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida #warbler
- Cape May Warbler (Setophaga tigrina) male These are certainly among the most beautiful warblers, and we happily saw more than usual during migration this year. #birds #Florida #photography #nature #warbler
- Black-throated Blue Warbler (Setophaga caerulescens) male from the recent warbler show in the back yard. Always love to see these beauties. #birds #photography #nature #Florida #warbler
- Louisiana Waterthrush (Parkesia motacilla) with yummy earthworm. I spent hours watching and photographing this sweet bird walking around the pond and in leaf litter looking for food — tail pumping up and down the whole time as they adorably do. #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida
- Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) getting nectar from the spectacular Florida native Coralbean aka Cherokee Bean (Erythrina herbacea) flowers at Kissimmee Prairie. Notice how she's both flying and perched! #birds #photography #nature #nativeplants #Florida #pollinators
- A White-eyed Vireo (Vireo griseus) perched between dives into the pond while splash bathing. Easy to see where the name came from. The pretty greenery is Maidenhair fern (Adiantum capillus-veneris). #birds #photography #naturephotography #Florida #nature #nativeplants
- Prairie Warbler (Setophaga discolor). The time of year I like to sit outside in the backyard blind to photograph warblers and other migrating birdies. A nice break, but not from reality -- the way I see it, this is one of the most real things. #birds #Florida #warbler #photography #nature
- Male Indigo Bunting (Passerina cyanea). I need to remind myself often lately -- the wonders and beauty of the natural world continue on, despite ugly current affairs of men. #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida #naturalists

- I see them sometimes during migration season in my back yard, but this one was photographed coming to a feeder at a friend's home. They are shy and only breeding season males are as blue as this one. Females are mostly brown.

- Yes. In Manatee County.
- Great Horned Owlet (Bubo virginianus)-- revisited the nest and the little fuzzy one is growing up quickly. Mom isn't staying in the nest anymore during the day but both parent birds were nearby keeping a close eye on things. #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida #nature
- An adorable Pine Warbler (Setophaga pinus) allowed me to take photos of his bath in the back yard. Just what I needed at that moment. Hope you enjoy it, too. #birds #naturephotography #photography #naturalists #Florida #warbler
- A closer view of the Great Horned Owls (Bubo virginianus) -- mom with her fuzzy baby nuzzling her. #birds #naturephotography #photography #florida #owls
- Was fortunate to photograph a beautiful Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) and her fuzzy little one nesting in a large oak tree. Though I have some close ups of the owls, I like seeing the nest of twigs, leaves and trailing Spanish moss. #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida
- Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis) with shiny leaf wild coffee (Psychotria nervosa). Catbirds are "regulars" in the yard throughout the winter season. I'm always sorry when they go for the summer. #birds #Florida #naturephotography #nativeplants #naturalists
- Time to show continuing support for Ukraine. My neighbors have one of those signs but it’s become weather worn. I think I will get them a new one and put one out at our house, too.
- Robin red breast. An American Robin (Turdus migratorius) from last week’s back yard invasion, primping and preening after a bath. Fog in the background. #birds #naturephotography #Florida #photography #naturalist
- A polka-dot wasp moth (Syntomeida epilais) getting nectar from Flatwoods Plum (Prunus umbellata) flowers in the yard. Signs of spring. #arthropods #Florida #photography #naturephotography #moth
- An Eastern Cottontail rabbit (Sylvilagus floridanus) snacking on Florida native shiny blueberries (Vaccinium myrsinites) in our front yard. Birds like the berries, too. Also people. #rabbit #nativeplants #Florida #photography #naturephotography #bunny
- A female Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon) perched on a Red Maple (Acer rubrum) branch in the late afternoon at CREW Bird Rookery Swamp Trail in Naples. One of the few species where the female is more colorful than the male. #birds #Florida #naturephotography #photography #nature
- A male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) blasting off out of a pond in mid-Pinellas on Sunday. Wood Ducks are so gorgeous, they hardly seem real. I love ducks. #birds #naturephotography #photography #ducks #Florida #woodduck
- One of my favorite species, Florida Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus) at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve. A late afternoon thunderstorm was coming in from behind and light was lovely. Such charismatic birds. #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida #kissimmeeprairie #caracara #falcon #raptor
- One of the pretty Pine Warblers (Setophaga pinus) frequenting the back yard this winter. They like the bark butter I put on an old log, and also are one of the few warblers that will take seeds from the feeder. #birds #photography #naturephotography #Florida #warbler
- Blue-winged Teal (Spatula discors) male. Dull overcast light, but a beautiful duck is always worth taking photos of. #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida #ducks

- Thanks!
- Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) female The black and white males are much flashier, but I do love the "girls". Anthropomorphic I know, but she really looks happy and proud. #birds #naturephotography #pahotography #naturalists #ducks
- Northern Shoveler male, (Spatula clypeata) on a pond in mid-Pinellas County in Florida. #birds #duck #naturephotography #photography #naturalists #Florida
- They are here in our Florida yard for the winter. I miss them when they leave for the summer.
- Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) perched on a Wild Coffee leaf in the back yard last month. I love the intricate, marbled ventral side of these butterflies, even though it's not as flashy as the wing's topside. #butterfly #naturephotography #nativeplants #Florida #naturalists
- This is the end. Happy New Year! American Redstart (Setophaga ruticilla) male. Thought about saving it for the full moon, but a new moon works, too. #birds #moon #naturalists #theend #photography #naturephotography
- Dilemma Orchid Bee (Euglossa dilemma) male, collecting fragrance to use in his courtship from a basil leaf. Spent a little more time with the pretty orchid bees today before the rainy weather came in. #invertebrate #Florida #naturalists #photography #macro #insect
- Wishing everyone joy and peace in this holiday season. Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) #nativeplants #Florida #naturalists #holidays
- King Rail (Rallus elegans) foraging in marsh vegetation at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, Okeechobee, Florida in April 2024 #bird #photography #naturalists #naturephotography #Florida #KissimmeePrairie
- Dilemma Orchid Bee (Euglossa dilemma) male collecting fragrance oils from the stump of a non-native viburnum treated with herbicide. More about this here: www.researchgate.net/figure/Euglo... These bees are an introduced species, now naturalized in Florida. #photography #naturalists #invertebrates
- Dilemma Orchid Bee (Euglossa dilemma) male attracted to a basil plant in the back yard. They collect fragrances for mating. These brilliant beauties are from Central America, but naturalized and spreading in Florida. #naturephotography #photography #invertebrate #Florida
- Limpkin (Aramus guarauna) from a recent birding excursion. #birds #naturephotography #photography #Florida #naturalists
- Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus) getting a drink from the backyard pond/creek in spring. Our yard, planted with Florida native plants and designed with birds in mind, attracts a nice variety of migrating birds. These are a favorite. #birds #nativeplants #naturalists #naturephotography
- Reddish Egret white morph in classic canopy pose. Probably my most successful image, it was once featured as a two-page spread in National Wildlife magazine. A split second of elegance and beauty in this species amazing dance. #birds #photography #naturalist #Florida #naturephotography

- Thank you so much.
- Redhead (Aythya americana) male, after a dive. I love ducks and excited the migrating species are showing up here in Florida for the winter season. #birds #naturalist #photography #naturephotography #ducks
- People, you are not sufficiently excited about white pelicans. White pelicans have wingspans second only to condors. Like up to ten feet. Saw one today. The first time they really got my attention, I was running and some came in close overhead....

- There are many things pictures can’t convey. Saw a flock of around 300 White Pelicans soaring and swirling in the sky above me in Florida a few weeks ago and the feeling and sight will stay with me like an incredible lucid dream.
- Sanderling (Calidris alba) Was thankful to get to do a little birding on Thanksgiving Day on Gandy Beach - down in the wet sand with a lot of adorable peeps like this one. #birds #photography #naturephotography #Florida
- Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo osceola) photographed at #KissimmeePrairiePreserve in a recently burned area. #birds #photography #naturalist
- A King Rail (Rallus elegans) in its habitat at #KissimmeePrairiePreserve taken last year. I have photos of these secretive rails in the clear, but I love this view because it better represents what it is usually like to see one. Photographed 07/04/2023 #birds #naturephotography #photography
- Eastern Phoebe (Sayornis phoebe) was hunting from the wire. These flycatchers are Florida winter residents (snow birds?) Photographed 11/22/2024 #birds #nature #photography
