- And to be clear, you don't need to have a lawyer to assert your rights. Saying "I will not answer any questions without my lawyer present" will make things 1000x easier for the lawyer who eventually represents you (possibly an appointed public defender). You don't need to have a lawyer already!
- Serious answer: cops don't only arrest guilty people. If they did, my job would be a lot easier. It doesn't matter why the cops are questioning you. If they're questioning you, they're planning to charge you with something. Don't help them. ALWAYS shut up and demand a lawyer. ALWAYS.
- You seem to be assuming that people will be assigned a lawyer before being deported to El Salvador if they pronounce some magical words, but I am not sure that is how things work anymore
