- This wonderful encaustic 'Fayyum' mummy portrait depicts a youthful bearded man wearing a gold ivy wreath on his head. The geometric pattern along the neck of his tunic and the background are also gilded. In Egyptian art, the gods had golden skin, and this usage symbolized immortality. 🏺 📸 me
- I have finally seen one of the Great Lakes! (Michigan) And, boy, they were not kidding when they called #Chicago the Windy City. I didn’t know they meant ‘bone-chilling cold wind’, even with the sun out. Some weirdos were wearing shorts! 😆 Another bucket list item, checked off.
- Forgot: if you’re still in Chi-town for Sunday brunch, you could do a lot worse than Svea Restaurant, a Swedish diner on N. Clark in Andersonville. Very tasty, very gay-friendly part of town. My mouth is watering, just from the memories… 👍👍
- Good to know. I’ll see where that is on the map. Thanks!
- They’ll wear shorts in February (yes, in the Midwest!) if it’s a mild sunny day…!
- Nuts!
- I was really looking forward to seeing the Portus Relief in detail at the @artinstitutechi.bsky.social, but the problem was that I couldn’t really *see* it when I got there. Not placing a highly reflective case opposite a bank of bright windows should be taught in Curator 101. Disappointing. 🏺
